problem with my cars fuel system (i think)
Ok, i have a problem with my cavy.
Every now and then especally after long drives and almost always on hot days my car will stall like it isnt receaving any gas but after letting it sit for about 30 mins it will start up like nothing wrong. When it first did it i figured it must just be the fuel filter, right? (easy enough) so i replaced it and went along on my way but a week later it did the same thing again. so i figured it may be something more serious, so i let it run for awail and i could hear the pump hissing so I figure must be the fuel pump, right? so i replace the fuel pump and sure enough the week after it does it again. Its been about a month now and iv been pumping high octane (which I almost always use anyways) and injecter cleaners and octane boosters in just to keep it from doing it as often. but it still does it, almost every day now. Anyone ever had this problem with their cavy or have any ideals on what it could be? |

Re: problem with my cars fuel system (i think)
This problem sounds like a common problem, but it is also and expensive problem... It sound like your control module is breaking down (Looseing Spark).. This module is located behind your spark plug coil pack..
Also behind the Control Module is a crank sensor.. While you have the coil pack and the control module off it would be a great idea to replace it as well.. TIP: when trying to get the crank sensor out DO NOT break it.. It is very easy to break and if it does break you will have to remove the oil pan and push it up through the hole.. Try and be as careful as posible with this part! I hope this helps... Take care |

hummm, sounds like that could be it. Diffenetly something to look into.
But any ideal why it does it on hot days? during the winter (you know that two weeks in florida) it didnt do it once even with long and hard driving. |

Re: problem with my cars fuel system (i think)
These problems sometimes are a mystery.. Seriously they are. If you ever get a used one and tear it apart, (Which is pretty hard) you will find a circuit board placed in a metal case with some type of hard silicone that covers the circuit board.. Electronic parts the are soldered together will expand in the heat or maybe damp weather, Very hard to tell because of the silicone that covers the board... You can take if off and have it tested but im sure that it will show up that everything is fine because it doesn't do it all the time..
I have a 1984 chevy camaro that my wife drives every day.. My wife would call me up from time to time and tell me that the car had left his sit and wouldn't start... Luckily it was always where she could either get home or back to work.. To my surprise every time I would make it to the car it would start... Thinking that she had it flooded I didn't think much of it.. This started to happen more and more. Maybe 3 or 4 times in a month.. I replaced the control module and she hasn't has a problem since.. It may also be the crank sensor in your car making your problems.. The sensor may already be cracked or broken.. thus leaving you to a small but major repair... I hope that I am making sense for you....lol.....If not maybe I could explain a little better for you.. Take care and hope this helps |

Re: problem with my cars fuel system (i think)
I did have this same problem with my 94 cav 2.4L. I took it to a repair shop and they thought that it was a sensor right by my intake, (of course it wasnt doing it at the time because the car wasnt running for about an hour when they came and got it).
A couple days later, it did it to me again. The nice people at the garage came and got it AGAIN. And when they took off the air intake and directly looked at the throttle body, there was a big piece of carbon (not sure why, I pretend Im Bobby LaBonte 90% of the time) that was gumming up the sensor that is located on the throttle body. So it would run fine cold, but when the car got warm, usually after about 40 minutes of driving, the carbon would get gooey and melt onto my sensor, causing the car to snub and not start again. All in all, they took a wire brush and cleaned it up real good, and now every so often, I'll take the intake off and check it out. Havent had a problem since! I hope this helps you..... |
