I have a 94 blazer and recently the fuel pump went bad. I had it replaced at local garage. Tech drove the truck into the bay, dropped the gas tank and replace the pump and sender?? unit. After assembly the pump now comes on but the truck won't start...sense than the entire distributor has been replaced, but still fails to start.
HAs spark and fuel pressure. Any ideals! |

Not sure if pressure was totally check!
What's the difference in the three types listed? TBI, CMF & MFI I do know they blead off the valve at the back of engine under the hood. 4.3 vortex engine with 4 wheel drive, I would assume they installed the correct pump, maybe not. What's the correct pressure for my model? Appreicate your help! |

Re: 94 S-10 blazer that doesn't start after a new fuel pump was install
56-60 at start, 61-65 at running... Check grounds, did they replace the fuel pulsator unit? (seperate from the pump or the sending unit)

Re: 94 S-10 blazer that doesn't start after a new fuel pump was install
Pulsator meteres the fuel out with the pump, if it's bad, the pump won't mean squat... And check that pressure!

Re: 94 S-10 blazer that doesn't start after a new fuel pump was install
Had the pressure checked, the gauge showed about 15 psi and didn't change when trying to start from the key on position.
Does this mean the pump has been installed? |

Re: 94 S-10 blazer that doesn't start after a new fuel pump was install
IF you're only getting 15, then he got the TBI pump... He has the wrong pump installed...The CPI pump should be at 56-60 at start, 61-65 at running.
The pulsator is in the tank

Re: 94 S-10 blazer that doesn't start after a new fuel pump was install
From the information I got from you, I went down to the garage and had them get the pressure while I was there, 15 psi. I then told them they had the wrong pump TBI and it should be the CPI. They finally agreed. What happened here is the tech installed the pump and never checked the pressure using a guage. They then proceeded to extensfully check out or trouble shoot what they thought to be the problem (Electrical). They told me they have hours into trouble shooting,I would assume they want me to pay for that time.
I don't believe that should be the case. I think it is there stupidness never checking the pressure right after installation. What's your take on this situation?? Your advise would be appreciated. Thanks agin! |

Re: 94 S-10 blazer that doesn't start after a new fuel pump was install
I think between the fact they ordered the WRONG pump and didn't confirm anything that you should be under NO obligation to pay for that time. The only time you should pay for is the 2 hours installation time and perhaps the initial diagnostic of the bad fuel pump to begin with. You can't expect to pay for them throwing parts at it hoping to fix the problem.

Re: 94 S-10 blazer that doesn't start after a new fuel pump was install
You owe them for the correct pump and labor for initial checkout and installation for same. Nothing Else. If they put the correct pump in the first time, there would have been no more diagnosis needed. You shouldn't pay for their screwups. That's only fair. I'm in the business, if I screw up, then it's on me. If it's a local garage, they need word of mouth for their work. A bad rep can be a major hit against them. If they give you a hard time about it, threaten them with the Better Business Bureau, and that you will go out of your way to spread the word about them. Who decided that it needed the distributor also?
