Re: 97 Passport Just wont start

Clean the battery posts. and ground points and try it.

if it is still a no go it could be a dieing fuel pump.

Or your battery is toasted and/or the alt is on the way out.

Lots of things to check first.

Re: 97 Passport Just wont start

How come Isuzu did not make an access door to get to the fuel pump, I have to drop the tank, I have 15 gallons in there.

Also can I just add an in line fuel pump??

Re: 97 Passport Just wont start

I think most cars and trucks you need to drop the tank to replace it.

If you are looking to get rid of some gas, syphon it out.

I just got the new pump, I connected it to a 12V sourc and feel the action in there but no sound, Does it have to be in gas to make the Humming sound??

Re: 97 Passport Just wont start

Is there any chance that it could be the EGR valve or pcv valve, how loud is the humm from the pump?

I checked the realy and it energizes ok the truck started and when I applied gas to keep it running it stalled and thats the last of it.

Are you sure it's getting a continuous feed of fuel? Did you actually put the new pump in?

The easiest way to see if the pump is working (IMHO) is wire it direct to the battery (fused of course 10A).

If it's a brand new pump, and it's wired direct to the battery, then you will be sure to bypass any faulty electrical components that were in between.

If the car runs with the pump wired direct, then you know it's intermediate wiring.

I had a problem with wiring between the under-hood fuse panel and under-dash fuse panel for the fuel pump, so I did this test, and then just wired directly from the relay back. Prolem solved.

Re: 97 Passport Just wont start

No I did not put it in yet, I bench tested it,
I am going to remove the hose at the filter and start the ignition to see if any gas comes out.

That's good, but if it fails, since you are under there anyway, it's very easy to tap the power feed to it. I just ran a pair of wires from the pump to the battery.

You will certainly know if it's a pump, electrical, or fuel line restriction problem then.

the only fuel pumps i have ever heard hmm, are the real big ones, like the ones in chevy/ford/dodge trucks and vans. but if it still doesn't work even after replacing the fuel pump, check your injectors, check your fuel rail make sure it's not clogged, check your breather valve, pcv valve... that doesn't sound like something the egr valve would do... if it was the egr, it would still run, but act like it's gonna cut off every 3 seconds while it's at idle. and check and see if you have oil in your car... if there's no oil, the motor is probably just locking up on you. check your ignition system... check for faulty wires, make sure your distributor will turn. make sure your spark plug wires are all connected to the spark plugs. but if it's not your injectors, fuel pump, fuel rail, ignition, just make sure you 1. have gas, and 2. you have oil
