Smoke intermittently coming from heater vents

I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring Convertible LXI. Was driving down the road and smoke started coming from the heater vents. Shut the heater off. Next day turned it back on and it appears to be running fine. However, I have not run it on high for any length of time. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this? Thanks!

Could be a leak in the heater core. Did it smell like burning antifreeze or like burning wires? What do your fluids look like?
