Cabin lights wont turn off

I have a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and the cabin lights wont turn off. I removed the fuse that controls them but that renders the heater, radio and blinkers useless. And the lights on the doors remain on. The other fuse that turns off the lights makes it so the headlights wont work. This happened out of no where and i really need some help. I'm car illiterate so please use laymans terms. Thanks.

There are 2 possible reasons that I can think of. To turn them on individually, you press them and it makes that "cli-ck" sound and then its on till you press it again. Im pretty sure you know that, but its a possibility. The other is that there is to the left of the knob that controls the headlights there is a switch that moves side to side that controls the brightness of the readout lights. If you move that all the way over to the left, it turns on all of the cabin lights.

Your problem may be that it is just left there, keeping the lights in the "on" positin. To correct that, simply move the switch over to the right. That should fix it. Reply if that works.

If that doesnt work, just bring it in to your local Jeep dealer and have them look at it. I'm sure they can fix it.

Re: Cabin lights wont turn off

Another possibility is that the switch in one of the doors has been damaged and will no longer read 'closed.' A quick inspection of those switches will usually reveal some deformity or such. Depending on how bad it is, I would follow PG'9999's advice & take it to a shop. 'Tis been my experience (and I'm not labelling all shops, just some of my history w/ dealers/mechanics shops) that the more you can narrow the problem down for a shop, the better. . .
