NO lockup/ late hard shifts
I have a 92 ex coupe with an automatic trans. the torque converter will not lock-up and it shifts pretty late and hard compared to other accords I've driven. I don't get any codes from the ecu or tcu. I can handle the hard shifting ( unless thats bad? ) but I need to get the converter to engage. The chilton and hayes manuals don't go into trans. diagnostics at all and I'm runnin out of ideas. Any thoughts?

Re: NO lockup/ late hard shifts
How can you tell the T.C. isn't locking? (just curious) Most people can't feel that.

Re: NO lockup/ late hard shifts
Does yours have the sport/norm shift select switch?

Re: NO lockup/ late hard shifts
Well usually when you get into fourth gear and start letting of the gas a little the converter will lock. The tach will drop another 500-600 rpms and if you push on the gas enough it will disengage ( feels like a slight downshift ). And no I don't have the sport shift ( thank god ) everyone I know that has that feature says it's a pain in the ass.

Re: NO lockup/ late hard shifts
Huh. Yeah, I can hear it on my wife ZX2 when it locks, just cuz the exhaust is so boomy, you can hear it cut back when it locks. My Lumina I've never felt it or noticed it, it's quiet and has more torque than a four, so it's not as severe.
All I can guess, most I've seen were solenoid activated, with a fused circuit. Find out which fuse it's on, and work from there. I don't know much about Honda Computer control, a GM or Ford will code if the TCC doesn't lock when commanded to by the ECM. If there's no code on them, the computer is sometimes bad.

Re: NO lockup/ late hard shifts
Either that, or the control unit doesn't see it as a problem, because whatever it uses to determine when load is low enough on the drivetrain to lock up isn't sending correct info, or the hanging before shifting is keeping it too close to gear change threshold for it to command lock.
Do Honda's have a vacuum modulator for upshift? If so, you might wanna see if it's leaking.
