Healing old Wounds

Well it's time for another question! ahem. Well I've been looking at aftermarket spoilers here at the local tuner shop in town and found one that fits decently on the cavy, not too big, not too weird looking thankfully. But..

Alas installing it would require holes drilled which isn't new to me, but the factory holes for my z-24's OE Spoiler would remain... and I haven't the foggiest idea how to seal those holes up and not have the car look like crap afterwards. Your thoughts everyone?

Re: Healing old Wounds

Have ya heard of liquid metal? tape the underside of the holes, light-sand around the edges of the top surface around the hole, aplly the liquid metal and smooth it to surface best you can. light-sand the liquid metal once cured to flush to the panel, then prime, sand, should work.

Otherwise, hunt for standard rubber body plugs, in a size to fit the openings, though they look geeky, but they seal well, and just pop in.

a RKsport Pro stock looks nice also and it goes right into the factory holes .

Re: Healing old Wounds

You could put some fiberglass matting on the under side or bodyrepair self-adhesive mesh and put bondo in the holes, sand down so only th bondo int the holes remains and then have the trunlkid painted when the spoiler goes in. It'll match up better too!

Sounds like something I did with the mesh trick against a hole in the wall of my house. Wood is one thing but metal is metal.... (or whatever these cars are made of nowadays... hell if I know)

I'd better check out RKSport. I'd gladly pick a fin that fits on the factory holes over some generic thing, less hassle that way.

Maybe you could see the process as an opportunity! How about a couple of small LEDs wired to the turn signal harness, and routed nicely? Imagine a cool glow of light beaming to the underside of the spoiler or thereabouts. Some leds come with nice trims.
Just a thought of course.

I never thought of that, hmm that's not too bad of an idea. a splice then a ground and I'd be all set... I'll have to see where to go with that.

Re: Healing old Wounds

Best idea would be to find a spoiler that uses the same holes like classicrockjunkie suggested. If you go the body filler route, get a pointed body hammer and a dolly and recess the holes a little so the filler has something to stick to and then you won't see the outline of the holes when you're done. Very important to use the special pointed body hammer because you don't want to dent in the metal too much.

I actually looked up how to do that in my haynes manual, doesn't seem to hard. My car is still factory silver so the primer and paint won't be hard to find. Clear Lacquer is hard to get here in town but I'm sure I can find somewhere to get it. Body filler is not something I'm very familiar with, let's see.... fill...sand...sand..sand...light skim fill....wash...tackrag.....light primer.....sand, paint in thin layers....

My gods wish me luck people.

I agree, the idea might sound somewhat diff; but lets look at present day mods/solutions. Neon anyone? Ice blue driving lights? LED mounted spoiler arrays?
One might consider the spoiler as being amongst the least attended mods, stylewise; yet many have no problem plastering logos. stickers, and stripey doodads all over them.
Now imagine for a moment, you have a body mounted light system, (laser for instance), capable of projecting numerous logos, etc, that you can actually program to display alphanumeric characters and an assortment of other icons.
The imaginative possibilities become endless!

All this in a micropackage that can be recessed into the body, and even integrated into the body color so it is almost invisible.

Radical? Yeah! Bad? Yeah!

Doing' your car "your way" is what mods are all about! Eh?

Would be hard to focus though laser would be easier for projection with any other light source you'd need a set up with a frenzel lens and a condneser lens which needs about 4" length for the kind of projection distance. Would cost with lasers though!

Re: Healing old Wounds

The only thing I'm really worried about doing more harm than good to my J-body. I think that's universal though, nobody wants to hurt their cars
