help with my 1997 CBR600 F3.

Hi, i'm new to this forum.

I am haveing a problum with my 1997 CBR600. I went riding one day with my friend and his girl, we rode for like 45 to 55 miles before we went back to his house. I started to drive back home and the bike felt like it just ran out of gas. I look and there was half a tank left. So i sat on the side of the rode for like 5 min then tryed to start it again, it started right up. So i drove it home just fine. We left again to go for another ride and like 15 min into the ride it did it again. Does anyone know what that may be? And when do you think it's a good time for a rebuild? I have 35,000 miles on the bike now.

Thanks for any help.

Well, unless you beat your bike like a redheaded step child, you shouldn't need more than "regular" maintenance on the bike. Maybe you bought bad gas, or maybe there is debris of some sort in the tank or gas lines.

Re: help with my 1997 CBR600 F3.

I see, but i think my prob might be in the fuel. I have 2 van lines coming off the bottom of the tank. Only one has a hose going to it. does anyone know what the other one goes to? Thant might be my prob. That and i have never changed my fuel filter.....opps

Re: help with my 1997 CBR600 F3.

Might be a kinked vent line or an actual clogged vent in the tank. When it dies, if you pop the gas cap is there a loud sucking sound when it opens? If so, and it starts right up afterwards, it's probably a clogged vent/line. Check the routing of the existing line. Personally, I remove the vent lines from mine to ease tank removal for maint. The missing hose shouldn't be an issue. Also, try running the petcock on prime and see if it happens. May be a bad vac diaphragm in the petcock.

not being 100% familiar with your model but do you have a reserve fuel tap. usually the two lines are main and reserve. but then if the second one wasn't connected you'd be losing fuel so i might be on the wrong track with this second line thing.

if in doubt try the guys over in www.rrzone.com
they specialise in fireblades but also the little brother 600

Re: help with my 1997 CBR600 F3.

Well now that i think about it, this never happend till i blocked off that other vac stem. It did do that sucking thing when i opend the gas cap. So it must be from me putting a plug on that other vac stem. Damn me!!!

Thanks for all the help.

It is now time for paint. Going with the 350z copper. I'll post pics when i am done. I need to mold a head light, i have the honda racing plastics and there is no head light on them. I have been useing fog lights, but i can't see shit at night.

Re: help with my 1997 CBR600 F3.

Sounds like a fuel pump may be in order...

And on another *relatively unrelated note* the F3 is NOTORIOUS for having problems with the cam chain tensioner. Just a heads-up on what may be in the works, if it hasn't already been replaced. My dad ended up getting a manual tensioner for my brother's F3 because they ALL go bad on that model for some reason.

Re: help with my 1997 CBR600 F3.

Just for clarification, there's no fuel pump on that model. But yes, the CTC does go bad on F3s. My buddy's Blackbird had the CTC go bad with less than 15k on the bike. Might be a Honda thing.

Re: help with my 1997 CBR600 F3.

I don't wanna start a new thread, so does anyone know of a good site where I can get a proket and chain combo? Factory is ok, just don't wanna spend $200.00.

Try ebay or Ron Ayers Motorsports (just do a google search). Sprocket Specialist is another one. Oh, and Bike Bandit too.
