What does it ean when the check engine light blinks?

I understand it to mean 'intermittent missing on one cylinder'
If so you need to get scanned could be plugs / wires maybe coil.

You want to get this checked asap! The check engine light whether blinking, on steady, or (comes on for a moment then turns off) says that there is a problem.The drivability dept. will check the codes, then go from there.
Sometimes, if you talk to the service manager, and ask if they will apply the first hour to the "job" (after they scan the ECM). Also, you don't have to have the work done where the scan was done. They will charge an
hours time to scan the computer for codes.
