I have a 91 camaro rs. i bought the camaro thinking that it would be quick because it was a camaro. well i didnt do my research because i bought one of the worst. I love the car but hate the enginge it is a 305 tbi and its just slow as hell. i was wondering if you could throw a corvette engine in a 91 camaro without having to make alot of modifications.if there are alot of mods that have to be made what would me the best engine for me to swap with.

Is it an auto or manual?
You could swap it out for a 350TPI, it would be the cheaper and easier solution.. Or with a lot more money and time, you could put an LT1 in out of a 4th gen Camaro.. depending on how much power you want, you can keep your 305 and do some mods to it, you can get them up to 300hp fairly easily, and thatd be fast enough to keep up with just about anything else around

do a search on 305 performance, there are a lot of good posts on it, but I would consider the following..
Edelbrock TES headers, 3" exhaust, performance muffler (flowmaster is popular, I like Borla..) Vortech p&p'd heads, new cam (Call up CompCams, let them know what mods you have and they'l recommend the best cam) a GM performance parts Vortec intake manifold and modified air intake, holley 670cfm TBI unit, MSD ignition, blaster coil and 8.8mm superconductor wires.. After that your gonna wanna look at ECU re-programming.. Then you should be well into the 300hp range..Thats gonna cost a lot less than a LT1 swap and be just as fast.. You might want to do a complete engine rebuild.. If your engine is old or tired it'l crap out with all the mods.. Also, your 700r4 will be ok for the most part as long as your not launching it all the time, But you might want to look into a tranny cooler, corvette 1-2 servo, and a shift-kit, all three are in-expensive and make a world of difference.. Shifts will be a lot harder and faster

thanks, well so far i already have exaust put on. its a cat back flowmaster dual exaust with either 2 1/2 or 3 inch pipes and next i think im going to get a throttle body spacer.

it depends on your driving habits, like i said, if your doing a lot of hard launching, brake torques, etc. etc... Your tranny wont last long at 300hp.. I do strongly recommend syn. tranny fluid and a tranny cooler.. it'l greatly improve the life of your tranny

screw it... get an lt1 and and swap that in and have your car out of commission for over 5 months like me... lol
although i am doing alot more than a swap... plus i go to school and only can work on my baby on the weekends. so i'm not trying to discourage you, if you want to do an lt1 swap, do it, but it aint easy...

damn can he get an ls1 in there? im asking because we all know whats gonna happen when he puts an lt1 in there.... you creat a monster that wont stop... first u drop the lt1 in it, then u love have much better the car runs. more power more performance, who doesnt like that? then hes gonna start racing gt stangs a few ricers and hes gonna spank alot of them. then one day hes gonna turn into a cannibel and turn on his own kind... hes gonna start taking out fellow lt1's, then hes gonna get hungry one day and pull up next to a nice ls1 maro and get raped! after that hes gonna want that feeling, that power...my precious...and hes gonna be right back in here asking can the ls1 fit

i just didnt know if he could go that rout if he wanted because he sounds like hes hunting for some power, and in the end we all know that u have to put a few bucks into getting an lt1 to run with an ls1 and how easy it is to get 600hp out of an ls1, dont get me wrong ill take an lt1 myself but for the performance my out of control ass wants ill have to go the ls1 rout. i guess its how far u wanna go with it

well i think im just going to stick with the 305 tbi because i did that search for the 305 performance and there was so much stuff and i can get the amount of power i want with that 305.
