3 motors for a fc3s(2nd gen rx-7)

Which motor will get me closer to what i want. Now for future reference no badgering any of these motors these are all great motors and are really hard to destroy i know that from all the time i have looked into each of these motors. The goal here is to start off the with the cheapest motor to build up. They all get the same MPG about 17-25 and a 20 on average (a fuel controller from apexi will handle that one).

1. 94' camaro ss LS1 motor
2. 93' RX-7 twin turbo rotory motor
3. 95' 300ZX VG30DETT

That's it so give me the info you have to provide and your opinion on which motor YOU would go with and why. Thanks all.

I surprised he didnt say LS1...lol...I'd shove that in their since it's more reliable than a rotary and parts are cheaper and it's pretty inexpensive to make them go fast...

There's plenty of V8 240z's and RX7's...so you wont be alone in this new frontier

People drop LS1s in all kinds of RX-7's all the time. It's cheap, reliable, and very easy to build up. I vote for the LS1.

i guess it depends on what you are using it for...

i would personally go with the FD3S motor because its still a rotary. plus, it fits my lifestyle because i would have another car to drive while that car was out of comission. so thats me...but what about you???

the LS1 would be my second choice if i was using this as a daily driver/weekend track car....powerful and can be ALOT more powerful.

the 300zxTT motor wouldnt even be an option in that car to me because it would be a complete B**** to get it in and everything working properly...i wouldnt even want to think about it.

I would go with the LS1.

But 94 Camaros used the Lt1, LS1 debuted in 98.

well i think the rotary motor would be the best... the rotary engine is crazy you should have no problems fitting it in... the rotary motor is in there the balance the car out thats the whole point of the rotary motor... its small and has a lot of potential...

Re: 3 motors for a fc3s(2nd gen rx-7)

check out Hinson supercars. hes running high 9's with only 525whp no other super car can do that with only 25k invested. FDrx7-car+ls1-driveline+some mods. ford gt would stand a chance in 1/4 mile and for a little more money you could win at autocross 2. hell i can get fd (not running)right now for $4500.00. this not opinion but nasty facts.

You know i used 2 think the same thing until u add all other stuff like turbos, intercooler, heating sheild, all turbo pipes and manifold, you only gain 40lbs when u throw ls-1 engine, so just put less gas in tank to get 49/50 weight u couldnt tell the diff trust me ive had both engines -screw the 80k cursed-13btt rotary motor.

My vote is for the LS1. Most power, Most torque, Less expensive to repair, Most potential.

BTW: Like Rakshas said, the LS1 didnt come around in the camaro till 1998, and there is no such thing as a 94 Camaro SS

yeah sorry i ment LT1. I think it really is down to the rotary to the lt1 - i want to wait on this pole longer to do this and i know about hinsin or whatever- cool cars though i can do it for cheaper than that.

and btw i have a buddy running an 8.6 with a 454 (barely moded) in a vega i believe and he only put 10500 into this project.... just for drag though...

Oh mah Gawd! That LS1 Rx7 is AWESOME! I've been thinking about my "affordable dream project" for a while now, and I'm pretty set on a RX7 with a smallblock. If you really want to go simple and effective, think about a Chevy crate motor with 2 big, sucking four barrels on top of it. No ECU or any of that junk to deal with. I've seen this on a couple of the 1st gen. Rx7s. Big motor + really small car= rocket. I think the 2nd gen. Rx looks better, though. I also think the Nissan motor would be out of the question. I own one, and that thing would be almost impossible to change over. The 2 rotor turbo from the 3rd gen. would probably be a bigger pain than you think, too. If I was going to do that, I would try to go all out and see if I could get a 3 rotor out of a Mazda Cosmo. But maybe that would be impossible. Not that a fuel injected LT1 would be easy, though.
