I'm hoping you guys can help me with this little problem since no other forum has been able to figure this out.
I have a 95' 2.2L 5spd that came without a OEM tach, I recently bought a new cluster off of a friend whom I trust. He used it for less than 2,000 miles before he was hit by a guy who ran a red light. The cluster is out of a 96 4.3L 5spd and worked fine in his truck. I took out my cluster and threw his in, everything works except the tachometer. It just hangs at 500rpm and never moves regardless of engine speed. The needle moves freely, and everything else works without a hitch. I know that the gauge will read 33% higher than it suppose to, but right now I'm trying to get it to work period. Here is a video of what it does, should help explain it alot better than I ever could. http://thesofafox.com/misc/Vehicles/...ntcluster2.ASF Sorry the quality is low, camera phone. I had a Sunpro II tach in before this that worked and still works.. Am I missing something, I was told that it could click right in since the truck is wired from the factory for one; any help would be useful. The truck iteself is almost ready for a V8 swap (meer weeks away) and i'm frustrated that something this small is already kicking me in the butt. Thanks Edit: Clear up the fact that the cluster did work in his truck even after the wreck. Last edited by thesofafox; 02-14-2005 at 02:52 AM. |

Re: Instrument Cluster Swap Problem
Track the wire on the harness for the tach and wire it directly to the coil line in the engine compartment... The only diff on a lot of trucks w/out tach was the lack of that wire.

Found the connection, and wired it directly to the cluster, tach still does not work.. possibly just a bum cluster?

Re: Instrument Cluster Swap Problem
Yes, i'm 100% put my life on the line sure its hooked up properly.. I talked to a guy who lives down the street from me who has a 88 s10 with a 383 stroker in it and he told me something about a tach control module, i've never even heard about something like that, I thought all the pcb was in the cluster. I have no clue weither he is full of it or not.
