I found out what TV I'm going to buy!

27 " Samsung HDTV - $450

I think it's a perfect blend of price, quality, and practicalness since it won't become obsolete in a couple years like a normal analog TV. Also a good known brand, and at something I can afford. I'd like a bigger screen but my room is too small to fit one, so 27" is good enough. Widescreen would be nice but I don't want anything that'd hurt my wallet. So for you TV experts, this is a good choice right?

Samsung makes some top notch products. They are also the current market leader in semiconducters and LCDs.

Its actually very likelly that the system you just used to post this is using memory based on samsung chips.

Get it while it's on sale. You save $100, not too bad.

Re: I found out what TV I'm going to buy!

There was this program on TV a few days ago that had experts comparing the picture quality of LCD's, plasma's, and CRT TV's.

They weren't too impressed by the budget Tiny plasma (42"), nor by Philips' 27 or 28" LCD, nor by Toshiba's LCD, nor by some super expensive plasma (may have been a Sony). The best picture quality was obviously a CRT, and none other than the one i have in my bedroom: Panasonic TX28PS5

The point is you can't go wrong with a standard CRT TV

Unless you desperately need the space for something else

Definetely a good TV that you're looking at, it even does HDTV, not bad for the price either.

Re: I found out what TV I'm going to buy!

I bought it from an online retailer. Delivery was a little bit of a nightmare but ended up saving over £100 ($190).

The picture quality is great - but the Dolby Digital sound is even better

Re: I found out what TV I'm going to buy!

Yea I can't wait to hook up my 300 watt 5.1 dolby into my room. Plasma's look so clear, I can't imagine it being less clear than a CRT. I definetly can't afford a plasma or LCD though so they are out of the question. Sony Wegas I heard have the best picture, but I need an HDTV (so it doesn't get obsolete and useless in a couple years) so I guess I'll get this Samsung. It's only $450 and has free delivery

Samsung actually doesnt make an LCD..........they make DLP's which are comparable to the quality of LCD's. Sony is the leader in LCDs.

If your gonna pay almost 500 bucks on a TV, that sound better be going through some serious speakers. Do you have a pre-existing stereo system to hook up to the TV, pe?

Actually you will find that Samsung is the leader in LCD, followed by Philips.

Nope, but the 3 external speakers that came with the TV are more than good enough

I don't think the tv's that are produced today, (non HDTV) will become obsolete and useless in a few years. I remember reading something a couple of years ago pertaining to this as I was worried that any tv I purchased would become useless. I found the following quote on nbc12.com's site that might explain it better. "When the Government developed the plan for the transition from today's (analog) TV to digital Television, back in the 90's, they guessed it would be done by 2006. They predicted that by the end of that year, most all TV's in your home would be the new digital ones.

So, the Government made plans for many of the old, analog TV channels NBC12 and other local TV stations now use. The expansion of cell phones and other wireless devices makes these frequencies very valuable. So, today's TV channels are being sold to other industries.

Looking at the situation today, however, almost nobody believes the conversion to digital TV will be ready by 2006. Both government regulators and Congress have agreed the 2006 deadline will be extended until a large percentage of viewers are converted to the new system.

But nobody is sure how long the government will wait. In the end -- whenever that is -- the old channels will go away. And your existing TV won't pick-up any television signals.

At that point, your only option will be cable, a new TV or 'converter boxes' that will turn the digital signals into signals your old TV can receive. Most people guess those converters -- which now cost about $500 -- will come down to about $100. " The article I read talked about those converter boxes which would allow customers to receive HDTV signals on their older tv sets. My tv repair guy said you should have no problem if you have cable or get satelite tv service as well because they are already set up for it.

Re: I found out what TV I'm going to buy!

u can get a hdtv projector on ebay for bout $900.kind of pricey, but u can adjust it from 17-333 inches!plus u mount it on ur ceiling so space is not a problem! but if ur on a budget, i have the sony wega, 32 and 36 inch, non hdtv, and they are amazing. my friend has the samsung, which is also a good tv. just depends on how much ur willing to spend.crazyzayjay, three speakers is enough? i couldnt live without my 10 inch subwoofer, center channel, towers and rears. i guess i want to feel as if im in the movie!!!lol
