Rear wipers
I have a 2000 Ford Winstar. I have had numerous problems with the check engine light nothing to serious to date. The rear wiper is giving me alot of grief lately. It works perfect when you use it with the washer fluid. If you just turn it on it moves half of the cycle and stops. To date the switch has been replaced and a new computer has been plugged in to see if this would fix the problem and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions.

Re: Rear wipers
If you are using the rear wiper with washer flluid, can you release the button on the str col switch and get it to stop mid-stroke? Or will it always return "home"... on its own accord... no matter when you release switch?
Try giving the switch button both various short and various long "pushes" before answering above question. Attempt to "make" it stop mid-stroke. |

I have a 1999 Windstar with a 3.8 V6. My check engine light was on for over a year. My opinion is the check engine light is a money maker for the dealers. I keep an eye on the engine temperature if the light goes on. Check your gas mileage too. So long as the temp and milage are normal you can just drive on. Recently I went to autozone and got a code that translated to system too lean. I pulled the negative off the battery a few weeks ago and it erased teh check engine light so far. Good luck with the rear wiper.

Re: Rear wipers
The wiper still stops midstroke no matter how long you hold the washer switch on.
It does do 2 cycles before stopping midstroke. If you continue to hold the washer switch on the wiper functions normally. If you put it on delay or just turn it on it does about 1/2 cycle then stops. |

However, A 99 with a lean code is an indication that the Isolator bolts and Port seals need to be replaced. This forum is full of posts based on this topic. I reccommend you look a little deeper into it rather than simply ignoring the light. |

Try replacing relay #203 (please use a new one) in the fuse/relay box near the battery. Does that make a difference? If not, report back .....and get ready with a voltmeter for further tests. |

Too bad. Was hoping, but not really expecting, that the relay was the answer. Rather than go thru all the wiring checking details, you'd do better if I mail you a Xerox copy of wiring info. I do not have a scanner... so it won't be email. If you can send your postal address in private message, I'll get it underway. |

Good news. I was looking it at it this weekend again and I tried moving some of the relays around and the wiper is now working. The relay I originally replaced was slightly crushed so I assume this happened at the garage when they were trying to solve the problem.
Thank You for all of your help |

Re: Rear wipers
Congratulations on getting the wipers going again. I hope you have removed the faulty relay altogether... or it will haunt you again one day.
