Can a rear engine mount be regulation?
So, i have a classic mini cooper, and I really want to make it a powerful rally car. I used to own a jeep and i loved to race that off road. As you might know, minis arent exactly known for the large engine compartment. I want a large, powerful engine and the only way I can see it fitting is if it was rear mounted where the back seat might normally be, front wheel drive. Would this fit within rally car regulations? i cant seem to find any definitive information about whether the engine is required to be front mounted. Please help, i would love to build this, but i would of course want to race it which requires following certain guidlines.

Re: Can a rear engine mount be regulation?
I am pretty sure a class can be found for anything. I am building a corrado with a quattro drive train just for kicks. a full tube car.

Re: Can a rear engine mount be regulation?
Where abouts are you based? Different Motorsport bodies have different reg's as to what can and can't be done with a car. Your best bet is to contact the scrutineers for any rallies that are ran in your local area. They're the ones who have the final say whether you can compete or not. They're usually pretty nice guys who will be able to break it down the basics for you. Also bear in mind that if the event your doing crosses a border you will need to check with both governing bodies that your car is legal on their event#1

Absolutely! One of the baddest rally cars to date was the Renault 5 Turbo Alpine. It's all about the Group 2!!
