you're gonna have some serious problems with friction and offset loading. part of the reason everything in a standard engine pivots and rotates is because it reduces the number of parts sliding against each other and eliminates side loads. That also seems like an aweful lot of mass that has to reciprocate, and reciprocating masses are not good for either efficiency or performance. and then i suppose you could look at the vibration issues as your counterbalance does not truly cancel the translational inertia of the sliding yoke. good luck though

In case anybody hasn't noticed, this post was made by slider engines to promote their own product. I would take it as nothing more than propaganda.

Through the years I've seen some more or less stupid ideas, which category this one falls into I don't know, but they have all one thing in common, it never goes longer than ideas and perhaps a few prototypes.
