Coolant smell
My 98 tahoe is smelling like coolant. I checked and didn't seem to find any leak. The smell comes when the engine has been on and running. I can smell it more when I turn the engine off and walk around the front of the vehicle. The coolant level seems to be normal. I don't know where the smell is coming from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Coolant smell
I imagine that you have the 5.7 in there. I used to own a 96 sierra and had that exact problem which turned out to be the famous intake leak. It would only leak when the engine was at operating temp and it was leaking at the back of the intake and leaking onto the block when it was hot and evaporating. I could also smell antifreeze when i stopped the truck but never could find any leaks and at first it was not dropping in the rad or the overflow either. Then next thing i know it is down about a gallon. It is a common problem with the vortec 5.7 engines up to 98. It sucks and is the shits to hear that a problem like that is common , but you should try owning a newer one with all their "common" problems. GM is really starting to suck in my books.
