2000 explorer cold idle problems

I am having a idle problem when the truck is cold. Had a tune up and replaced the wires. Have changes the IAC valve as well. after the car warms up the truck idles fine.

Possibly Cold Start Sensor. I would start by cleaning both sides of the throttle plate with carb cleaner.

Our 2000 explorer has the same problem. I took the throttle body off and cleaned it. That did not fix the problem. There is a sensor in the intake tube. could that be sending the wrong temperature to the computer? Also where is the cold start sensor?

Re: 2000 explorer cold idle problems

Might also want to do an internet search on 00m12 + ford and see if that sounds familiar. It is a recall that Ford will fix for free if your mileage is low enough. I had this done and it fixed my idle problem. I had tried everything else to no avail.

Thumbs up cold start idle fix

My wife's exploder was running rough and stalling at idle only on the cold mornings. Approx 50 degrees and colder. It is a 1999 ford exploder xlt sohc v6. I replaced the o-rings on the intake manifold and it fixed the problem. I have had the problem for approx 2 years. A few times toward the end I would get a check engine light and finally the light just stayed on. The code was lean bank 1 and lean bank 2. I changed out the idle air control valve and it did not help at all. That was when I decided to change the intake o-rings and it fixed the problem. I did the job myself and it took approx 3 hours. The o-rings were blue in color and were not pliable. They were real stiff but would bend. The replacement o-rings were from felpro and they were silicone o-rings and were very pliable. Just get a book and some tools and you can do the job yourself. Good luck, Brian

Re: 2000 explorer cold idle problems

The 00m12 recall is good for 6 years/72000 miles in case you're in that group. It's a free fix if you fall into that category but you have to ask them for it. My dealer charged a fee to check and when it turned out to be the problem they refunded the diagnostic.
