heater core air flow

Over time, the air the the fan blows through the car has reduced to a trickle. I took the fan off and it seems to be in good shape. It is almost like the air intake is plugged.

Anyone else experience this problem and if so..... what caused the problem, and what did you do to fix it . Thanks for you help...

Your heat exchanger is plugged, if it is an r12 system and has leaked at some point oil from the freon system collects on the heat exchanger fins behind the blower fan. Dirt collects and slows the air flow. You need to remove the fan and spray some degreaser on the heat exchanger and rinse with a standard garden hose (not pressure washer). The dirt will drain out of the bottom. Your air flow should be restored. An A/C shop will charge you around 500.00 for this as they will remove heater core and replace.

Re: heater core air flow

where would i find the heat exchanger, would it be the heater core, also would there not be a filter between the blower fan the the heater core to collect the dirt

To the left of the fan(looking at the fire wall) There is a connecter with three screws and three wire connecters on top of the heater. Remove three bolts and pull plug straight up look inside and u will see the evaporater core inside spray a good cleaner on it and let sit 4 afew minutes. then spray core with compressed air and you should get good airflow after this has been performed. Good idea to have fan out during this fix so dirt can exit through the fan opening
