Question codes and oil type

I see in alot of posts here that people have codes where do they get them do I have to buy a computer or something and if so what is the best but least expensive. also what is best to use in my 2000 blazer synthetic or regular. thanks once again.

as far as the codes people post on here most of them either come from an autozone scanning or a handheld code reader you can buy. Autozone will scan codes for free. The handheld reader I think costs around $40-70. I have seen them in the papaer for 70 but I think there are cheaper models fro around the 40 range.

As far as what type of oil to use it is mainly a preference. A lot of people will switch to synthetic at a high mileage. Some prefer to use synthetic no matter what mileage. I know that topic has been discussed numerous times on here.

The outcome is if you go with synthetic most people end up with Mobil 1. If you go with regular I think Valvoline wasd the end result.

Autozone for free code reading.

For engine oil,

Synthetic

Mobil 1 5w30

Conventional

Castrol GTX 5w30

Oil Filter:

NOT FRAM! Anything else will be fine.
