67 galaxie ?-carb problem?
Ok, not a muscle car but i thought this would be the best place to ask
I have a 2dr 67 galaxie 500 with a 390. I just had the original 2v carb and intake swapped for a 4b edlebrock and high pro intake manifold. He re-jetted the carb and tweaked it as good as he could. He said it was hard to get it perfect because it is so cold here right now. Anyways when i get on the gas hard i here a click and there is a delay like im not even on the gas then it reacts and takes off-my problem is that i am going to race it this spring/summer and that delay will kill me-so what might be the problem? Thanks! -Ben |

Re: 67 galaxie ?-carb problem?
check the adjustment on your kick down linkage...I assume it is an automatic. Do the secondaries open normal when accellerating at high speed....you can feel them kick in....I would look at the kickdown linkage to see if it's binding somewhere...then all vacum lines next. Has the timing been checked..no click there..but hesitation or poor performance will occur. Is the carb the right size for the motor...cfm wise ??/

Re: 67 galaxie ?-carb problem?
Either the accelerator pump is not giving a big enough squirt or the secondaries are opening too quickly. As you suggest its useless to fine tune a carb in the middle of winter if you are looking for summer performance. I would suggest finding a book or info on how to properly tune these carbs (Edelbrock should have info), then in the spring tune it yourself.
It is not difficult to do and its much easier to do the trial-and-error tuning yourself than rely on others. |
