89-90 Escort GT Turbo

I've got access to ALL parts on this car. What do I need, at the minimum, to run 5-6psi? Reflashing ECU, what fuel system parts, etc? How much psi can an all stock system run, if at all? To what psi can my fuel system work with, without upgrading? How much can I expect to pay to have my ecu reflashed, or to get a jumper or stand-alone fuel system?

You'll see about 175 hp out of that engine with stock fuel system. I'd get the bottom end worked on. Get the crank turned and balanced, and go for high compression. I do it, and I swear by it. It's not the most power of all, but it's got power all the way around, and damn good torque.

Ford never made a 89-90 Turbo, it was 84-85 1.6.
The stock fuel system really can not support any boost at all, maybe up to 3-4psi before the stock MAF/injectors hit 100%.

A custom chip starts at about $300, and goes up to $800 for a "do it your self" programible kind. You'll need a larger MAF and injectors. The stock pump is fine to 250+ hp.

If you have a 97 or older you can run a cheap FMU to get you started, but 6-7psi is the most that it can reallly support.

Raising your compression with the use of a turbo is not a good idea, you'd have to buy your gas from a airport and pull a ton of ignition timing, making power less efficiently.

A stand alone system is well over $1000.

Just wondering what the stock boost was on those 84-85 turbos?
