Driver Side Door handle

Well my door handle came off in my hand the other day, so i need a new driver side door hand. does anyone know if i can just buy a used door handle and swap out the keying mechanism, or do i need to go to the dealer and grab my ankles and order a new assembly keyed to my VIN???
any knowledge on this would be appreciated.

Re: Re: Driver Side Door handle

I don't know if you can use a used door handle and just switch the key mechanism. Theres a plastic hole thats connected to your door handle assembly, and you have to insert the metal rod that pulls up the latch of the door into that plastic hole. Once its inserted in its a bitch to get it separated without breaking the plastic thing. When I installed my door handle I couldn't separate it, so I just broke the plastic off. So if you buy a used door handle assembly, make sure that plastic part is in tack.

Now, if you were only thinking of buying the handle itself and not the whole handle assembly, then it will work.
