98 cavalier red line shut off

hello, i just got a 98 cavalier, i was doing some reading on the internet and found out these shut off at around 108 mph, well im not stupid enough to drive 108 in a cavalier, however i was wondering since its a stick (manual transmission) and it doesnt have a tachometer, if the engine would shut down when it reached its redline, i was also wondering what the red line was, please help....

It doesn't shut off if just cuts the ignition so it will just seem likes it's shut off and when you slow enough it will come back in. It's a shock the first time it hits! Although up here in Canada it's 112.5 as it 180 km/h!!!!!
You didn't say which motor you have!!!

Re: 98 cavalier red line shut off

^^^ Actually its a fuel shut off, also another reason you don't hit the rev limiter. Like if your spraying nitrous and you hit it... it causes your car to lean out and detination is likly to occur..

Re: 98 cavalier red line shut off

Um.. you really shouldn't be playing with those gears and trying to act like its a manuel tranny... I have done it once by mistake trying to get out of a snow drift. I was in first and it got all the way up to 40 mph and had the biggest backfire i ever heard and the whole car lunged forward. In second gear you could get up to around 65-70 before it would happen to you. Lets just say don't do it intentionaly or your likely to damage your tranny..

I do believe in his first post he did mention it was a manual transmission.

But don't do it though. If you can't be bothered to shift, get an auto!

me again

i dont have a problem shifting, i love driving a stick, i was just wondering if i go to race someone and accidently rev it up to much, if i was gonna blow an engine, or if i had a computer to protect that from happening, i mean, its not like u can do much racing in cavalier anyways,
