New York dealer offers colored tires
December 22, 2004
In Russ Preischelīs world, tires arenīt just colored black. They also come in red, yellow, blue, orange, purple and three other hues.
Preischel, a partner in Hamburg, N.Y.-based Preischel Brothers Service Inc., a commercial truck tire dealership, began selling remolded, colored passenger and light truck tires last week through his colored Tires USA Web site.

"These colored tires utilize the latest in remolding technology available in the industry today," says Preischel. "All tires are visually and electronically inspected from the beginning stages of production all the way through to the finished product.

"After the tire is prepped for processing, colored rubber composite and veneers are applied. Then the tire is placed in a state-of-the-art molding process providing a permanent bond."

The tires are being supplied by a Canada-based company that Preischel declined to identify. More than 90 sizes are available, he says.

There are no plans to sell the tires at Preischel Brothersī outlet. "Iīm basically targeting the tuner market," which is more Internet savvy than conventional tire buyers, he adds.

Re: Colored Tires.....

Coloured tires are an old idea. I remember seeing some blue ones on a Mercedes back in the mid 1970's.

Tire manufacturers promoted the idea back in the mid-50's at car shows. Demo cars with coloured tires would go to promotions at tire stores in various US cities and towns.
But the coloured tires would wear out MUCH faster than the ordinary ones. Usually, tire company employees would bolt the coloured tires onto the demo car just outside town, to minimize the mileage on the coloured tires.

Re: Colored Tires.....

why wouldn't they have pics of the actual colored tires instead of those poorly photoshoped regular tires.
I know you can actually have colored tires I think BFG sells those tires with colored bands on the treads so id imagine its possible to have the whole tire in color, but this sounds and looks like a scam.

It sounds retarded, big ol' white walls are cool on classic cars but a blue tire is just stupid. Maybe if your a rap star and want gold tires to mach the gold rims, that mach the gold paint, on your gold interior Escalade encrusted with jewels with a big gold neon sign that says "Im riach, b*tch". However I doub't anyone with anything resembling a sense of style will be seriously interested. Crazy Canadians.

I could actually think of a few uses for them. I suppose they could be used on a number of show cars and not just imports but some old school rods too.
this is just another product that doesn't do anything but enhance the look of a ride like streetglow kits. just like any other enhancement out there it should be used with caution. while it may look good on some cars its not gonna look good on every car out there. take the large wing that came on superbirds and daytonas for example, looks real good on there but put that same wing on a camaro and you have an ugly ass camaro. these tires would look good on some rides, but they arent gonna look good on every ride.
now im not saying I want a pair for my ride, but it's good to keep an open mind about things like this. after all some people hated the fact that builders were putting 18's and 20's on custom rods. but check out what cars are taking home the riddler awards.

The only "good" use I can think of is that they could grind up colored tires for playgrounds, and use that insted of wood chips, or the standard black rubber mats/ground bits.

Looking over the website, the only tires that DON'T look like they've been photoshopped with the color is the blue sets in the gallery... and they look like they've been painted with a latex paint.

A quick whois of the website's url indicates the domain was bought from one of those 9.99/year sites in august of 04, and is hosted by a subsidary of Godaddy.com. While this isn't suspicius in and of itself (lots of small businesses go a route similar to this) but the newness of the url would cause me concern buying ANYTHING online.

The site itself has some design flaws, but what else is new, it's the internet. However, a few things concern me- the tagline at the bottom, "Published by Buffalo Smart Industries" has a url embedded in it that leads to http://www.buffalosmart.com. After trying to put a few cookies on my system, I was redirected to an "under construction" page. Again, not suspicius per-se, but concerning.

I know that these guys supposedly have JUST opened their doors for orders, so I can forgive a lot of "construction" but really has me worried is the contact information, or lack therof- there isn't any on the website! The only method of contact through the site is an email address. No phone numbers, no mail addresses, no fax numbers. A quick search for "Preischel Brothers Service Inc" on Google brings up the original article itself, followed by a few different websites that have the phone number for the company. For a person who knows that "tuners are more web-savvy", his main source of income has no website? Wierd. Funeral homes have websites anymore, yet this supposedly "in the know" guy doesn't?

It just... makes you think. I don't think, even if I wanted a set, that I would order anything from this guy for a good long while.

Re: Colored Tires.....

yuck...lol look at this comment in the FAQ!

"A grounding strip must me mounted to the vehicle in order to discharge static electricity that is generated from the colored rubber used in the remolding process. "

First off, they put "me" instead of "be."

Second, a grounding strip on the tire itself? On the suspension? The tires will generate static electricity!?! What is this going to mean when you pull up to a gas station!!

What a waste of money, and you know because it's something "new", they're going to charge an arm, a leg, a shoulder, and a kidney for those tires.

I'm happy with my black tires. Not only am i sure they perform better, but they look nicer, not ricer

Re: Colored Tires.....

hey im open to any new ideas that may improve automotive styling.as long as it's a safe product. however in this case its not. my brother works at a gas staition and and has seen first hand static electricity start fires just off of gas fumes. ive even seen a colored tire gloss that lets off a light color hue when light hits it. it was a very nice touch on that particular ride. it was a camilion green and the green on the tires really looked good against that paticular paint job. what im really curious about is just how would you go about grounding a tire?
now remember I never said I love these tires. so dont go thinkin im in love with ricey products. I just said these wont look terrible on some (very few) applications. however they wont look great either.
but clearly this guy cant be serious with this product I dont see somthing this dangerous being allowed on any car. its like that deer diguise intended for hunters.

When you ground a vehicle, you ground the ENTIRE vehicle, not just the tires While I won't go into a physics discussion on how electron flow over differing surfaces can cause electric discharge (static), sufficed to say that certain rubbers can cause a static discharge to build up rather quickly.

Grounding straps are woven metal strands that hang down from a vehicle's body or chassis and touch the ground. They neutralize any static discharge that builds up when the vehicle is in motion. These are quite common on semis, jacked-up trucks (when it owner isn't a total idiot), and not so uncommon on jeeps or any vehicle with high-friction (offroad) tires. You know you need one if, when you get out of your car, you get "zapped" when you touch metal as you are standing up. I think the warning about needing the grounding strap is just an indication that the rubber used in the tires (assuming the product is real) generates more of a static charge. This isn't necessarily bad or good, just different.
