Shifting Problems Loose Shifter

My tranny just started acting up it wont let me down shift in to third out of fourth or fifth unless i put it in second first then in to third and this is becomming a pain in the ass i mean i tried to force it in and it just wont go... also since i got the car the shifter has always been really really loose in gear it plays a few inches to the left and right... its actually alot looser then most of the girls in the area... my car is a slut...
how much is it going to cost to fix her...?

I don't know about your problem with the gears but I have owned 2 manual trans. GT's and my cousin has owned 3 and they all were like that.

It could be a lot of things so heres a list

1. low break fluid(our transmission runs off of our break fluid)
2. worn out master cylinder(if so replace its about 30$ max)
3. air bubbles(need to blead the master cylinder)
4. worn out throw out bearing(if so it would need to be replaced and its in the tranny so it takes a lot of work especially in our cars)
5. entire clutch assembly could be burnt up which sounds to me like it is the moste likely bet(if thats the problem it costs about 160$ for one at O'reillys and if you do it yourself although it is cheaper it is harder or you could have it done and it would cost about 700-1000 with laybor depending on where you go.

Good luck let us know what you find

Re: Shifting Problems Loose Shifter

Well the clutch was replaced 5,000 miles ago and now it only does it till the car warms up. so it seems like its not a big problem is it easy to instal a short shifter

its about 130$ I think for the probe trannys...its been a while since I've had to look but other than that if you have basic tools you should be able to do the instilation yourself for atleast close to free....may need washers or somethen. But yeah it is very easy to install short shifters.
