Suspension Help

I know alot more about engines than I do suspension! My 2000 Ford Windstar allows me to feel every little bump or crack in the road. I bet if I ran over a dime, I could feel it. What is this a symptom of? Do I nned new shocks? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Suspension Help

Has this changed from what you felt before as in....did this just start to happen?
Shocks usually go soft...not firm.
Right now...in Wisconsin.....it has been VERY cold....and.....yes.....the Windstar make a few more sounds.....and feels a little more stiff when starting out....(so do I) If you are in COLD weather....don't worry....
Otherwise....the Windstar is a nice riding vehicle (in my opinion....for the kind of vehicle that it is).

Re: Suspension Help

It seems to have gotten worse over time "slowly". It finally got to the point where I realized, wow, this thing rides really rough. It has gotten a little colder, but nothing to extreme.

Re: Suspension Help

I agree with wiswind about the shocks... they go soft with age (don't we all).
There are several rubber isolation "members" that, if broken or missing, would cause a rough ride. I think of some....rubber pieces atop the struts, rubber mounts for the subframe, rubber mounts for strg rack, etc, etc, .....

Do you feel it more in the front or the rear of the van? The rear shocks on my '01 were completely worn out at 44,000 miles, and I don't tow anything. I replaced them with Monroe Sensa-Matic Load Adjusting shocks (the ones with helper springs on the shock bodies). It's a very easy job to do and it made the van ride much better.
