Hi all,

Anyone uses Future as final gloss clear coat? I saw two types of bottling: yellow and clear. Both say " Future Floor Wash". Is this correct one (I was expecting floor wax)? Which one (yellow or clear) should I get? How do I apply it? Dip the whole body in it or use a brush or airbrush?

Ive just recently brought this stuff but over here its called 'johnsons clear floor wax'. Ive been experimenting on scrap pieces by dipping and brushing and this is wot i have found;

By brushing u will get acceptable results, it goes on effortlessly and flattens out beautifully and leaves absolutely no brush strokes. watch out for tiny air bubbles which are a bitch to remove - this seems to be caused if u continuously go over and over the previous strokes - so just brush over once and leave it. I prefer to use a cotton bud to apply it as it wont cause any air bubbles and can be thrown away, it wont affect the finish at all.

Dipping will cause runs and the wax tends to 'pool' up around the edges as it cant run off, u will need to use a brush to soak up the excess in this case. I have not airbrushed it yet but i would say this is the best method, the modelers in Tamiya Model Magazine use it alot and from the pictures it looks superb. Go for this as it can also be airbrushed straight from the bottle.

I am not aware of the yellow version u mention but i would guess go for the clear one. Hope this helps wong?

Thanks for sharing! I'm still wondering whether it's the right one as the label says "Future Floor Wash", not WAX. Anyone from US/Canada care to comment?

future is an acrylic based clear coat, it's similar to what'd you find in a bottle of X-22, it is NOT a wax, but it can be used to get professional finishes

it self-levels, so you can brush it on, and it fills tiny cracks as well

you can dip whole bodies in it, but make sure to wipe off any excess future with a Q-Tip or cotton swab, at the bottom or in crevices, if you don't they will dry out into some gummy cloudy type thing, also make sure the surface is perfectly smooth before applying it

it will turn flat/semi gloss/satin/matte to gloss

it works wonderfully at protecting windshields from scratches, as soon as you get a kit, wash the clear parts in soapy water, then dip the whole thing in future, by the time you actually work with the clear parts the Future should be all cured

and finally, put all parts under a bowl or something while the future is drying, don't want dust on your fresh clear coat!

Bought myself a bottle today. It's the same one as in the pic! Amazing, everything is so shiny now :-) No effects on decals too. I even brushed it on and it left no brush marks! Of course, if there's an orange-peel, the orange-peel still stays. So a good smooth paint coat is still a must.

How do/can I get rid of runs, especially dried ones? Got a bit carried away brushing on to much

Future dissolves immediately on contact with ammonia, Windex and other glass cleaning solutions contain a bit of ammonia, try using those

While it's still wet, use a Q-Tip or cotton swab to wipe off the excess

Cool! I'll give a try after shopping for the right cleaning solution. BTW, am I right to assume ammonia has no effect on Tamiya TS paints?

Uhm, I'm pretty sure ammonia won't do any damage to Tamiya's TS paints (TS are lacquer based after all) but you may want to try some ammonia on a test sprue sprayed with a TS just to make sure

I was telling my friend about the wonders of Future and he warned me he'd heard horror stories of Future cracking!!!

Is this true?? If yes, how can I avoid this cracking??
