AMD Driver disc, What are these programs?

I just got a new comp, a lovely AMD Duron 950 with a Gigabyte mother baord.

Only one small problem, I dont have the Motherboard manual, but I do have the CD with the drivers etc on it.

Anyone know what these utility programs do:

Intel LDCM Ver.6.10.0.17 ?

@BIOS Writer Ver.1.08.l ?

Face Wizard ?

Gigabyte Utility Manager Ver1.3a

I worked out the system info program, and the easy overclock program.

But I think over clocking it is whole other thread. :smoka:

Some of those are just drivers to optimize performance and stuff. The only way to find out what they do is to install them and run them.

I just knew someone would say that. and I have to say I did consider it.
But it would be just my luck that one of them would be one of those wonderful programs that worms its way so deep in to the system and meddles with things that I will never be able to remove it, and my machine will be eternaly slowed down. (unless I reformat it, something I really dont want to do after only 3 days. )

If it's a disk that came with the hardware, I highly doubt that it would do that. That's what WINDOWS is for.

Looks like it might have a bios update. so better leave them alone.during any bios update there is a chance that the bios will be corupted and you will be in deep poo. So my advice is stay away unless your computer is not running fine.

I'd say dont worry about those programs. They aren't going to do anything useful, and and like you said, just slow stuff down more.

The disk is utilities that you don't need. Ignore the disk - it will make a nice coaster but that's about all.

WinXP does everything for you on installation, about the only thing you might like to install would be the latest 3D card drivers - and your best bet is to download them.

BTW - Don't forget to do the Windows update and get all the security patches etc.

Cheers

Actually, if possible, always download the drivers for hardware from the manufacturer, NEVER use the Windows drivers.

The programs on CD im curious about are not drivers. But utilities. I want to know what they do!!!!!

surly someone else must have a gigabyte motherbourd?

All I know was that I reformatted yesterday, and I put back on all of the drivers. I found this utilities disk, and it had Easy Tune III on it, by gigabyte. I installed it, and it froze my comp on startup. I had to restart in safe mode to get it off!

Wow, Easy Tune was one of the Utilitys I tried. It worked perfectly, except that my Video card dosnt like being overclocked.

As for the drivers, well I used the latest printer, scaner, and video drivers from the respective websites, but the sound driver I dwnlded from Gigabyte wouldn't work, so I had to use the on one the disk.
