Headlight Bulb Replacement
Hi. I did a search and surprisingly I found nothing that helped. I want to replace the headlight bulbs on a 2000 Grand Cheroke. Is there a trick to it? I can see the plug for the bulb but I can't fit my hand in there. I don't know if the whole enclsure is supposed to come off or not.

Re: Headlight Bulb Replacement
If you don't have one you should buy the book for your Jeep, which is available at most auto parts stores.
I would get the "Chiltons" book, I have "Haynes" but there's too many contradictions & Chiltons shouldn't be any worse! These books usually walk you through the steps & will at least tell you how to replace those bulbs. There maybe a hidden screw or something that could ease the process once removed. |

Re: Headlight Bulb Replacement
If they are anything like my 97 Laredo, they are simply twist and pull out. I had to remove my battery to get to my one on the passenger side. Make sure you do NOT touch the glass. It shortends the life of the bulb....something to do with the oil from your skin is what I was told.

Re: Headlight Bulb Replacement
seeker, remove the long bolt and you have to pry out the whole unit. be careful not to break anything. there's three ball joints that the headlight snaps into.

Yeah there is a long bolt on top. If they have never been out they will take some prying.

Does anyone know of more info like this for replacing them on a 94 Grand? I need to get at the park and turn lights also.I have both the Chiltons and Haynes and I just cant see the pics well enough to decipher what they are doing. I have this annoying reminder on my VID that the rear lamps are not functioning properly, even changed the bulbs that were wrong. How the previous owner would put the wrong bulbs in 4 different places amazes me to no end. But even after changing and checking the others, I still get this message about the rear lamps. I think I have burnt out parklights on the front side, but cant get at them. Frankly, this whole frontal lamp & headlight system design baffles the hell out of me. I like the headlight aiming system, although even the old way was great. The rear lamp cover is a snap to get off, so they were sober when they designed that, but the front is a different story. I am at the point of taking off the crossmember about the headlamp, hey wait maybe ......

yeah, there's two screws that hold them in place(one on top and one on the bottom)......remove them and it and the assembly comes out....then swap the bulbs. |

Re: Headlight Bulb Replacement
liek audio said, there are 2 screws.
1 is hidden under the 1/4 panel - if you follow the headlights all the way over to the quarter panel , u will see a philips head screw kinda under the quarter panel. the other screw is very hard to c, if you look in between the headlight and the side marker/turn signal assembly you will see or not see the other screw (you may want to take the top screw out and kinda pull the headlight to the side to see the other screw). after removing the screws it should pop right out. |
