Exclamation Popping from front suspention

Ok, this has been going on for awhile. When ever i stop or go a popping sound comes from the front. Im shure its the sway bar b/c i just had the control arms replaced. The connections for the say bar look good but how do i lube the fitting? they dont have the bleeders that you hook on to. I think it is popping b/c they are dry. Thanks in advance for the help.

Lubing joint

I had similar issue with my 2001 Windstar. Following some of the earlier thread, I used a needle attachment for grease gun, and pumped grease into the boot on the anti-sway bar. I grease the anti-sway bar link attachment. The poping cracking noise has disappeared since then.

Make sure you do not over grease.

Re: Popping from front suspention

I have also used the grease needle.
There are other possible causes of popping sounds....but the grease needle is the cheapest.
Another is the subframe bushings......there are 4 of them.....They connect the subframe (which holds the front suspention) to the unibody. They can work loose. These have nuts that face down.
Another source of popping can be the bushing "pocket" where the rod for the front suspention connects to the subframe. There are 2 of these....and you see them from the front underside of the car. One is right by the oil filter....you will see 2 large nuts...and the threaded ends of the round suspention.....facing forward.
The solution is usually to have the bushing mounts welded to the subframe.

WisWind, and others

I had this piece come loose on my 93 Taurus. There was clunking going on. I took it out and took it to the Ford dealer. I didn't know it wasn't suppost to come out of the subframe. The dealer didn't have a clue what I had in my hand. I too had mine welded in.

Regards

Dan

Re: Popping from front suspention

Hi
My front suspension bushings are loose on my '96 and pop. I can, in my driveway, let off of the brake and roll very slowly forward "bouncing" the van by "fanning" the brake on and off. My bushings will pop every time. Conversely, I have also had the noise from the subframe bushings. I had to be actually driving, starting and stopping to hear it. I also felt it as the left rear subframe bushing is under the drivers feet. I changed mine which was not too difficult. I have not yet made it a priority to have the suspension bushing sleeves re-welded.

Good luck
