Bonneville starting issues

Hi i need help as i am stuck... -=(

my Bonneville will not start.. i checked the pressure and sometimes there was pressure and other times there was none... so i checked fuses and relays.. didnt know which relay it was so i tested them all... even the ones under the dash.. all are fine.. so i figured it was the fuel pump.. as the car will start if i put ether in the air..

i changed the fuel pump only to discover i havnt fixed a thing.. the fuel filter was also replaced..

after all this was done, i realized my windows and driver side power seats were non fuctional also yet they were before..

so my problem is... it seems there is an electrical problem in my vehicle.. but were do i start.. i have no power to the fuel pump, power windows, power seats, and not even that little orange light on the door handle but only the driver side which is weird...

i was playing with the small relays under the dash and i hear alot of clicking when i crank the key so i removed one and my little light came on and i got pressure on the fuel, i crank it starts for 2 sec and click no power again... still no windows or seat during the entire process....

SO IM CONFUSED.....

Please help.. i need my car..

Re: Bonneville starting issues

I am beginning to think there is a common set of problems related to 96-99 Bonnevilles. I have installed 2 fuel pumps, fixed two frayed wires leading to the fuel pump control module, and replaced the control board.

I am guessing it is likely a problem with the wiring harness.

Your problem seems to be a grounding issue. Check the grounds to the vehicle. Just remember there are a lot of them. Check the main ground from the battery first and work your way back from there. You will probably need a repair manual to show you where they are located. Also check the ignition circuit and the security system if you have one. The can also cause similar problems.

i even tried to ground directly from the fuel pump.. but now it seems that when i remove a relay from under the passenger side.. the car runs for 1 second.. then dies.. it seems there is good fuel pressure.. but still dies off.. you can actually hear the relay click off... so now im thinking maybe its my fuel injection.. windows, driver seat, injection.. still not working.. i have a service manual.. but it doesnt help me with the ground.. i have found several ground points myself... but ive tested them and the wires.. they all seem ok.. how can i all of a sudden lose a ground???

Re: Bonneville starting issues

It happens that a wire will break or just the vibration from running the vehicle can cause a ground to go bad. Since you have checked a lot of the grounds you may want to replace the BCM, body control module, as it controls most of the functions you say do not work at present. You can also replace the fuel pump relay but you may also have a problem with the fuel pump resistor. I am not sure if Bonnies have them but they are build like Grand Prix's and should have one. Check the Grand Prix forum as Big-L explained in great detail how to change one on a GP. There is also a way to jumper out the fuel pump relay to see if the resistor is bad.

Thanks for your help!.. but last night i decided to take out the driver seat and realized that it would work when ignition was off and not when ignition was on.. but not the other accesories.. so i gave it a new ground and magically everything worked and car started.. now my problem is my climate control is flashing, last time this happened it took 2 weeks for the damn thing to reset it self.. any way of resetting this thing??

Re: Bonneville starting issues

Often the problem described above was caused by coroision (from leaking sunroof drains commonly) of the ground block under the passenger seat or driver seat depending on the year.

hey i had the same problem as you can see in earlier posts.. i discovered that i had a bad ground that caused the fuel injection not to work aswell as windows and power seat.. so if your also having similar problems.. maybe you should start there..
