Removing bose system completely

Hello, I am new to this forum. i have a 1994 camaro that has a bose tape deck in it. My question is how hard is it to completely remove the 3 bose speakers and the bose headunit. I have heard that its not a simple task but i cant stand having a personal cd player hooked up through the tape deck anymore. I would like to remove it myself if possible because i was quoted $220.00 just to remove the bose speakers at a local car audio shop. Does anyone know of detailed instruction guide on the internet that would explain the process of bypassing all the bose equipment and running all new speaker wire. Thanks in advance

Don

Re: Removing bose system completely

I have a 10 disc changer wired into the stock stereo on 94 with the BOSE system, so that may be an option for you. It would definately be easier than taking the system out, plus I like the sound I get from the BOSE system.

Re: Removing bose system completely

The headunit is REALLY easy to uninstall by your self.
1- Unbolt the plastic piece below the steering wheel (there should be 2 philips screws and 2 7mm [I think they are 7mm] screws.
2- Now unbolt the 2 screws holding the plastic trim over the radio
3- Open the glove compartment and unbolt the other 2 screws holding the the plastic trim
4- Now just unbolt the radio (mine only had 2 screws) and pull the radio out
5- Wire your new radio in and put back together in the reverse order

Being my first radio install it took me about 3hrs to install and put the car back to gether (I also didn't have the radio manual to help with the wire colors).

As for speakers it looks like you just pull the plastic cover right off. I haven't tried to replace those yet but I will this weekend. Hope this helps, if not just post again.

Re: Removing bose system completely

step 1:unplug the old p.o.s. bose and get a gm wiring harness and color code it to a new cd player harness and plug it in.

step 2: proceed to place the bose unit it the middle of the driveway at least 10 feet away from any GM vehicle and swiftly bash it repeatedly with a heavy metal object until nothing is left but bits of circuits and wires and plastic

get some new speakers too, in the back also where those empty holes are, and repeat step 2 for the bose sub in the trunk

Yeah i will be fine takin the bose headunit and speakers out but once there removed how do u go about installing an aftermarket headunit and speakers. Is there a special wire harness you need or do you just run all new speaker wire strait from the headunit and leave the bose speaker wire how it is? I plan on installing a clarion headunit and most likely a MB Quart Component speaker set in the front. I have heard some people just have components in the front and just subs in the back. other people have put 2 way speakers in the back along with the components in the front an subs also in the back. What do you guys recommend? Sry for all the questions but am new to car audio
Thanx in advance

Re: Removing bose system completely

the wiring harness u gotta buy at pep boys, and u gotta buy all those plastic things to hold the radio in, (if not pep boys, any auto place.) then the radio u have shuld have pre spliced wires hangin off of them, u gotta get that harness u got from pep boys, connect blue with blue, red with red, white with white, whiteblue with whiteblue, and so on, then assembling the radio mounting bracket is loads of fun, kinda like erector set. hahah

I would suggest running all new speaker wire straight from the headunit to your speakers, if not at least take out the factory amps when adding a new headunit. We had to do this with my cousins 94z when we put the alpine headunit in because it was distorting badly with the factory amps in place, and they are shit.

Its pretty much as simple as that, your radio will tell you what color each wire is for. I think the stock radio has all the wires labeled so just cut one wire off the stock deck and replace it with the new decks wire (cut the yellow power wire off the stock deck then hook the new decks wire up...) It is a fairly simple project, like I said before it took me about 3hrs.

I would recomend changing all the stock speakers out. You dont want to just replace the front speakers because it will still sound like crap because the rear speakers will be distorted and not a clear, crisp sound. Then you should do subs in the back. Right now I have 2 10"s sitting in the T-Top box since I don't have T-tops on the car. Eventually I will be getting the behind the back seats fiberglassed and the subs will be there. Hope this post wasn't to confusing, good luck.
