Question how long do they usually last

On average how long do stock 3k gt's last? Do they usually last much longer than 100k miles?

What'd you mean? Like do you have to do a tune up b4 100K? if that's your question then yes... there's a thread on this form not to long ago if you wanna do a search and I think it's covered in the FAQ section 2.

Mine now has 154k on it, and other than the 2nd syncro gone, and needing new filter and plugs, it looks amazing, runs great most of the time, and smokes almost anything I run into. Lots of attention too.

i think the question you should be asking is how reliable is the NA 3000GT? or what kind of problems are common for the 3000GT? or what are the maintenance costs for the 3000GT?

any car will last a long/short time depending on how the owner maintains his/her vehicle.

Re: how long do they usually last

It is average...obviously statistically a honda will probably last alot longer...however a honda isn't exactly meant to be a sports car...it's target market niche is as a reliable family sedan or hatchback.

If the car has been well maintained, then over 100k shouldn't be a problem...I remember there was one guy somewhere who had gotten his over 300k...on the other hand if the previous owners didn't do regular maintenance on the car, then you will start to have problems down the road.

If you are considering driving or buying one. Check for proof of the 60k and 120k tuneups...these are big deals. Shift through all hte gears while driving, make sure they don't grind. Ask to see if they kept records of repairs nad oil changes. If it is turbod ask if they have a turbo timer or how long they typically let it cool down while idling. Make sure there isn't any blue, black, or white smoke coming out from under the hood or exhaust. Lastly have a mechanic that you trust check it out. Ask if they have gotten the transfer case recall done(if it is a twin turbo). All of this and much much more are covered in our FAQ. I suggest you check it out when you get the chance as it will answer the majority of your questions.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: how long do they usually last

NA's and SL's will run for a long time... A VR4 will too, if maintained right. (And with money)

If you get a 3kgt, you wont want to keep it stock for long.

Re: how long do they usually last

Yeah it's no honda, you can't beat the crap out of it for 100k and have it last another 80k...but i'd say you've got till about 160k on average until real problems develop...but i've seen them above 200k when well maintained. The problem is that it's a fast sports car and most people like to put their foot all the way down on a daily basis, which over time will wear the engine out. Unlike a Honda which is pushing around 105 HP and never really has to work hard whether the pedal is to the floor or not. Do as much background checking as possible and you can have a great looking sports car that will last you many trouble-free years.

Re: how long do they usually last

It all depends on how bad you rag on it... like me i drive it nice and dont rag on it on the road... but when a race comes along i rag on it (of course). 3000gts are know to hold up very good especially the 1st gens (due to the thick walled engine). now they arnt going to hold up as good as a toyota... lol but they stay up there. mine has 140k and only problem i have had with it was the vaulve guides wearing out, but thats a generall problem with any old car (mines a 92). so really it all depends...
