I put an interceptor engine in my 95 bird

I was wondering what I should do now after I put a '98 interceptor engine in my '95 T-bird and I was wondering what I should do as far as modifications and also possible brands and locations to get the parts.

Technically theirs no internal difference between an interceptor and non-interceptor engine. Just a better alternator, silicone hoses, h/d radiator.. Does it have PI Heads/Intake?

yes it has PI heads. I haven't been able to put the PI intake on it yet because it won't fit under the hood and I don't have an intake for it yet.

if the motor is a 98 and is out of a 98 p71 CrownVic, then it is not PI. the PI motors didnt see a CV until 01 or 02.

If it's an Interceptor motor, yes from all I have seen and tore apart ,it does have PI heads! All interceptor motors come with PI heads, buy some at an auction from your local State sales of Cruisers and you will find that they have PI heads,I did...

just because the car is a Police Intercepter, dosent mean it has PI heads...PI in this case does not mean Police Interceptor, it means Performance Improved. I drive a 1996 CVPI, and my car has no PI heads, and more than likely wont, PI intake and cams? yes that it will have. And i looked it up, the CV's got the performance improved heads in 2001. so your 98 does not have PI heads. Sorry.

If you need anymore information on the subject check out www.crownvic.net it has all the info you will need to make the determination of what you really have

A buddy of mine buys all he can get his hands on and has yet to run across 1 that has yet to anything but PI heads on the cars from State sales and his granddad as well.He said there may be some out there, but not many at any rate.2 State boys here have PI heads in their cars, yes they are driving them still as undercover op's,so may vary state to state.California is different with about all their cars,so that will say for something. They can have put other motors in place of the engines that were Interceptors so they could use the low mileage 1's that were placed in the car before sale is what his granddad said,so I dont really,I was a Chevy by before getting into this project and Chevy's I do know..So Fords are still foriegn to me even though I drive a Cougar XR7 and my 1st car was '67 XR7,GM after that..Really dont matter which of us are right or wrong, just look on them and they will say API or PI...

Re: I put an interceptor engine in my 95 bird

I didnt say that they never came on CV's. what i said was that ford changed the engine design in 1998 to the PI heads. althought the Crown Vic's didnt get them until 2001. so unless your 98 has had a different engine installed it can not possiblely have stock 1998 PI heads. I dont care what your buddy says. he is wrong.
pre 1992 are 5.0's or 5.8's
Crown Vic from 1992 - 2000 4.6L NON- PI heads
Crown Vic from 2001 - present 4.6L PI heads.

I cant be any clearer on this.
so prove me wrong with a picture (of a factory installed engine) or a ford date code from the heads you have. and i will concede. until then your 1998 ford crown victoria engine dosent have PI heads.

Went to that site,www.crownvic.net, adn they,Robert and ss80xt,gave me 2 complete different stories, but 1 was the way that I suggested could of happened, change out.I didnt mean to sound slamming toward ya,just that there are many possible ways that they could end up in the car,PI heads that is..Here's a copy and paste from the 2 at the www.crownvic.net site from the emails I sent to them..

#1. [email protected] ,,
The first use of PI heads was in Mustangs in 1999. Crown Vics (and the other Panthers) didn't see them until 2001.

Steve

#2. Robert (crownvic.net), [email protected],,
Nope, there were no FACTORY production 98 Vics with PI heads. PI heads were only installed in 01+ Vics. However, the 98+ Mustangs had PI heads so it is possible someone swapped engines after the fact. It is also possible that some test vehicles were equipped with PI engines, but those are usually crushed after testing.

Rob

So we have conflicting stories, but 1 is on the same line that I was speaking of and thats the later 1..We dont need to flame each other with words or jesters, just try to find out the possible answers as to how or why that he came up with a set of heads in a CV..Dont take me wrong,I love to find answers to puzzles..

Good Luck. Looking at putting some PI heads on my 99 CVPI soon. I got the heads, but I dont have the PI intake yet (the PI heads have the square intake ports, and the stock have round ones). So I cant slap them on untill I get the correct intake and the proper gaskets.... But any how, hope you the best wishes! Get us some Pics!!!

Re: I put an interceptor engine in my 95 bird

Fully:
The best gains can be seen with just swapping the PI cams and adding the PI intake. the PI intake will work with your NON-PI heads just use PI gaskets. you can get somewhere to 200 RWHP with jsut swapping those parts. Hope that helps.....

Yes,you are correct and I do agree! We all need all the info we can get from 1 another about any situation concerning part exchanges or modifications.I just happen to have a man that builds Stangs helping me and together we are searching, finding and improving all the time with what we can gather. He reads alot of Ford Mags and Stangs too,me,I search the Net,then we get together with what we find..THANKS..All's kewl here.. ..

Fullyinvolved,,
Now adding those heads will give you a compression ratio from 9:4 to 1 to 10:3 to 1,if from a GT Stang like I have, pistons are different and heads set closer seems. But I'd still try and find an intake if possible for a good match,if you are going to port/polish them as I am doing.Just go to this post by me and you'll find what I am doing, cost some bucks for me,but worth it,also the CV was wrong for the drive shaft, thats from a Lincoln Mark VIII that I found, just about there..Find the post here,,
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=331676
Just copy and paste you can find out what I am doing all together..Hope this helps out for ya and GOOD LUCK Dude..

Re: I put an interceptor engine in my 95 bird

ok. Just to clear some things up here.
1. The engine is out of a COP CAR. NOT a civilian cv police interceptor.

2.I still have the computer from the stock '95 4.6L so I know its robbing it of power.

3. I still have the stock intake manifolf from the stock engine in there b/c of clearence, intake, and other issues.

sorry if I confused anybody with my vague discription.
