89 s10 Blazer Battery Drain

I own a 1989 Chevy S10 Blazer V6 4.3L TBI. I didnt turn it on for like 4 months or so. So i tried to fire it up... no luck dead battery. I replaced it and tried it out... NICE it worked. I began turning it on about ounce a week. In about a month the battery was dead. I took it in and i got it replaced for another battery. I did the same thing, one time a week start. The battery went dead again in about 4-5 weeks. What could be wrong?

Your problem is most likely a parasitic drain. Just in case you don't know what that is, a parasitic drain occurs when a power-drawing device(anything that would draw power from the battery when the vehicle is running) is drawing power when the vehicle is not running. They're usually very hard to troubleshoot, but because it's caused by a short in the wiring, it's very hard to pinpoint what's drawing the power and where the short is. If you plan on taking it to a mechanic, make sure it is either an ASE certified mechanic or a mechanic who you know has a very good reputation. Electrical systems on cars and trucks are really complicated and if they aren't properly repaired, you could be in for a lot more trouble than it's worth. Hope that helps.

Re: 89 s10 Blazer Battery Drain

Check that the glove box lite or under hood light aren't staying on . Unhook the battery ground cable and check amp draw between battery ground terminal and ground. I think if the draw is over .5 amps you have a short. Pull fuses 1 at a time Until the amps drop. That will Isolate what circuit the short is in.
