Oil Pressure
I just bought a 1991 Lumina Eurosport about 2 weeks ago, and about 2-3 days ago, I knowticed that the oil pressure has been dropping down to 0 as the car idles, and then jumps back up to around 40-50 psi when driving, and I was just wondering if this is normal for this car, or if it is something I should look into? I let the car idle in my drive way for a little while with the pressure supposedly at 0 and the engine wasnt making any weird sounds or anything so I was just wondering If this is normal for these cars or not?
Thanks JayCub |

90 Lumina Oil Pressure
Got oil pressure problem too on same car(90 Lumina/3.1l). At cold start oil pressure OK. After it warms up the pressure gets so low the warning light comes on, but only at idle or low speeds ie: parking lots. Hit the gas and pressure goes up but not very high. Any info where the oil pump may be or what the problem may be?

Owners Manual
I found my owners manual and it says that it is sometimes normal for the oil pressure light to come on at idle, I also just did an oil change and put a little thicker oil in the car and that helped the oil pressure go up while going but not at idle, I think sometime this week I might take my car by a shop and ask them about it, and see what they think.

Re: Oil Pressure
if your oil pressure did go two zero your engine would turn too junk real fast it could be the oil sending unit

Re: Oil Pressure
Check for oil leak under the car. I agree with logan: it could be the oil sending unit (leaking). Replace it as soon as possible (it may cut the fuel off). Been there, done that.
