OK bought my 2001 silverado used with 20k miles. Now 1 year later and 50k miles(warrenty ran out at 39k) my low coolant light came on. I then refilled it back up and checked my engine oil and trans to make sure antifreeze wasnt going in there and it wasnt. A few days went by and the low coolant light came on again. Upon inspection i found a head gasket leak on the front passengerside head. I know this isnt normal. Is there a recall or TSB for this? If not what would yall suggest besides me dishin out the $$ to get it fixed. Any help would be great. thx.
p.s. its a 5.3liter |

Re: Head Gasket Leak
Yes fix it asap. coolant inside you engine will be much much more expensive than fixin a bad gasket. As far as recall, i dont know of one.

Re: Head Gasket Leak
There is no warranty for this, as I just encountered the same problem last year. My truck had 75K on it when the head gasket cracked, leaking several tanks of coolant into the crankcase. I never found this until I had changed the oil. After getting the gaskets changed, everything was fine until 20K later. 4 bearings spun one day and the engine completely locked up in the middle of an intersection, I believe as a result from so much water entering the engine. I had to buy a complete engine this time. So be careful...
