I have a '99 2.4L automatic sunfireGT that will not start. The inside lights and such will come on and it tries to start a little, but that is all. Aside from this, about a week ago it randomly died at a stop sign but then started back up. I admit to knowing very little about cars, but thought I may (probably) need a new battery. But what else do I need to check out? Alternator, spark plugs, starter??? Also, is it wise to put a new battery in myself, because I would like to avoid spending excessivesly on this, as this cursed car has a way of leaving me penniless?

Sounds like your battery is dead. Try getting a jump. If that doesn't work, you can replace the battery yourself. 50$ will get you A new battery. While your at the parts store, have your charging system checked to make sure its not your alternator.
If the engine is cranking, you might want to look elsewhere. If the engine cranks, but does not start, you probably have a different problem. |
