Replaceing the Seedometer HELP!

I have a banged up 95 ecort wagon with a speedometer that goes to 120mp/h. Is it possible only change the speedometer with a 94 escort wagon that only has a speedometer that goes to 80mp/h. Will this work proporly, will the speedometer show the correct speed? Would i have to change the whole instrument cluster, or is the speedomeeter itself detachable?Thnx

I once had a 95 escort with a broken speedo (that went to 120) and they could only replace it with one out of a 93 that went to 80. it worked fine. so my guess would be that they are interchangeable. hope that helps ya.

Re: Replaceing the Seedometer HELP!

Yes, they are interchangeable, the speedometer is calibrated within itself, so the speed shown will still be accurate. I bet your needle was jumpin all over the place and making noise, wasn't it? The 80 mph ones are a bit better when it comes to this problem. And the speedometer itself can just be taken out of the old cluster once you take all the screws that hold the black trim piece on and just pop it in the new one, or you can just swap the entire cluster.
