Just bought a 2002 Yukon XL (1500) with 59K on it. I was hoping that I would not have to take it to the shop before the paper License plate expired.
not so lucky. The noise started with a quiet rub in gradual right hand turns, and now grinds in the turns like metal to metal brakes, but even if not using breaks. Repaced what seemed to be an awful flaky rotor on the drivers side, no change. I have read several things online about recalls on speed sensors, but I'm sure the bearing itself is shot. No chance it's covered under some recall? Seems sad I bought this vehicle to replace my 1995 Diesel Suburban which still has the original wheel bearings at 202K Good thing I have not sold the Diesel Sub yet till the Yukon is fixed. Is this common? Last edited by gse2schmidt; 04-09-2006 at 12:59 PM. |

Re: 2002 yukon xl wheel bearing
Yeah it's the wheel bearing. Mechanic was sure it was a broken caliper bolt, and it sounded different each time I drove it.
PENCIL PUSHING CUBICLE ATTENDANTS strike again. My buddy has a 4wd 1994 Suburban with 212,000 miles on it and I have a 1995 2wd Suburban with 202,000 miles and we each have the original bearings. Good going GM The same guys that brought you the Quad4 head gasket. |

Re: 2002 yukon xl wheel bearing
Thanks for the info GSE.
I have a small sound on my driver fron tthat sounds much the same as you describe...except not as severe...I think I will check it out and see if it is the bearing. I sold a 97 GMC Suburban and as soon as I get this 2002 paid off enough I am selling it and going back to the old style...except for burning up brakes, it was a way better vehicle with a lot more room.
