Question Help! O2 Sensor installation...

Bear with me, I'm just the wife...I hope I'm posting this in the right spot...my husband needs to install a new O2 sensor in my 92 Prelude. He's never installed one in a Prelude, and is having a little trouble locating it (the sensor, not the Prelude). We asked someone else for help, and they said it should be on the exhaust manifold (on the heat shield or near the catalytic converter). My husband looked for it, but still couldn't find it. I told the person helping us that it was a heated sensor, and asked if that would makle a difference. He said that it didn't make a difference, all O2 sensors are heated. Then he said, "It should be parallel to the radiator. I guarantee you that it's on there, in one place or another. If he can't see it from on top of the engine, he has to crawl under and check near the catalytic converter." I told him that I didn't think all O2 sensors were heated, since I was specifically asked, "Is it heated or non-heated" when I ordered the part. But who knows, I'm not a mechanic. I'm just wondering if anyone else has some helpful hints or suggestions...please be nice!

THAT IS THE LOCATION FOR OXYGEN SENSOR ON H23A1 AND H22A1 ENGINE. HERE IS THE LOCATION FOR F22A1 ENGINE.

92 lude

if you have and F22 engine in your prelude, then the 02 sensor is in the exhaust manifold as pictured in ludegirl's reply. if you have the H22 or H23 engine, 02 sensor is located between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter. you'll have to crawl underneath the car to see it. and regardless of which engine you have, it is a heated oxygen sensor. and when ordering a replacement part, ask for an exact fit. it will cost a little more but you wont have the headaches later with the wiring. a universal fit is cheaper and will work just fine but may sometimes throw the voltage off if you dont cut the wires just right. hope this helps!

by the way, ludegirl.... hot car! hot chick!!!

Thumbs up

Thanks so much for all the help....I will pass on the info to my hubby....I did make sure to order the exact O2 sensor I needed, and not a universal, just to be on the safe side.....Good to know I made the right decision! He should be able to figure it out now....if not, I'll be back!
