maintenance required warning light

Does anyone know how to reset the "Maintenance required" warning light?

I preform my own routine maintenance but on my wife's new 'o4 Camry, there's a warning light that needs to be reset.

Thanks

On an 04, which should still be under warranty, I'd definately bring it to the dealer to check to see why a new car needs some maintenance.

At any rate, you'd need a scanner to view the code and erase it. That would cause the light to go out. If it's someting you've done to cause it, and there is no continuing problem, the light should go out after three starting cycles.

AutoZone will usually check the codes for you, too--for free.

Might just be a notification that you have reached the mileage where you are scheduled to change the oil. To reset the light, check your owner's manual for instructions.

I found it on an other forum and it works.

1. turn ignition to ON position.

2. toggle the trip/odometer display to display Odometer.

3. turn ignition to OFF position.

4. WHILE holding the ODOMETER button down, TURN the ignition to the ON position. Keep holding the ODOMETER button down until you see the light stay on in 2 seconds and then flash and then OFF.

turn ignition off and then back on to confirm that it's off.

Those procedures crack me up. Someone has too much time on their hands.

thanks!

Thanks for posting that solution! I change my own oil too, every 3000 miles. The stupid light comes on at 5000 to tell you to change the oil. Even though I changed it at 3000, then again at 6000, the light stays on. Really a great feature!! What will they think of next??

You're lucky they don't disable the car whenever it needs maintenance instead of just giving you a light.

I had the oil changed on my kid's 05 Corolla and a day after the change, the maintenance required light came on and I had the oil changed right at the 5,000 mile mark. The dealer service writer did the odometer reset thing and it sure worked. This is going to happen to a lot of us with newer Toyota vehicles so the advice posted by Mulepacker sure is good to have.

Happy New Year!
