Intrepid will not go into gear until warm
I have a 93 Intrepid and every winter it seems to get worse every winter. It will not go into gear drive or reverse until the car is completly warmed up. I don't have this problem in the summer at all just when it gets cold outside. I ever park the car in the garage and it don't seem to help at all. My car still gets 30 miles to a gallon an don't have any other problems with it. My car has 172,000 miles on it. Can anyone help me??

Re: Intrepid will not go into gear until warm
Check your tranny fluid. The proper way to check is to wait until the transmission is warm then pulling out the dipstick. Try that and see what happens.

Re: Intrepid will not go into gear until warm
Had a similar problem with a 1992 Gr Caravan we used to have - it turned out to be the seal in the low/reverse clutch in the transmission. Other symptoms - on cold morning if you started it let it run for a minute, turned it off and then restarted it would go into gear second time. Adding a seal sweller additive (don't normally recommend) did help for a couple winters - had to add each fall. Finally rebuilt the trans to solve it once and for all and dicovered the type of seal was changed in an ECO in 1995.
Probably not what you wanted to hear... |
