b16a1 or b16a3

Im doing a swap and I was wondering if the b16a1 would be better with the cable transmission or are the hydraulics better and longer lasting on the b16a3's? Ive got a 95 civic 4dr and I plan on turbocharging the motor after the swap. The only reason I want to buy the b16a1 is because the price is cheaper. Also will I have to buy some kind of conversion harness for the ecu if I go with the b16a1?

Re: b16a1 or b16a3

go with the b16a3 for sure. if i recall correctly the b16a1 is older and you cant put an older motor in a newer car, only the other way around. you can put a 94-95 del sol b16a3 motor in your car and it would be the same OBD. i highly suggest the a3, its ,uch more practical and hydraulic clutch is a better iidea. plus a newer motor is going to have less wear and tear, dont buy a total bottom of the line part. if you buy a 15 year old b16 it is going to be pretty damn beat up. you might spend a couple hundred more initially with the b16a3, but its better than having to dump much more into an older one just to keep it running later down the line

Re: b16a1 or b16a3

You can also use the B16A2 from '94-'95 Del Sol VTEC's. They came with both the B16A2 and B16A3 in those years, although the A3 was more common. Both were ODB1. The B16A2 became OBD2 in '96+.
