I am getting started on rebuilding my 2.2 liter 97 s-10 engine. Anyone allready done this that can give me an idea on how much it will run, not making any performance mods, just a rebuild to get it running again.

Re: Rebuilding 97 2.2
well, here is a price idea for the internal portion of the engine. you will need a complete gasket set 100.00 -200.00, engine machining (overbore, honing, and align honing) a little more if you want the complete rotating assembly balanced 125.00-150.00, new pistons and all new rings in overbore sizes ~200.00. you can still use you crank and connecting rods if they are usuable. you will also need a complete bearing kit 50.00-100.00. most importantly, you dont just slap all these parts together, you will need many precision tools such as dial indicators, dial calipers, torque wrenches, etc. these prices i am giving you is just an estimate of what i think it would cost. you will have to call around to get an exact price.

Re: Rebuilding 97 2.2
Why rebuild a 2.2?
Get a good 4,3L and drop it in for the same price.

Re: Rebuilding 97 2.2
hahaha,
Why put in a 4.3? Get a good 5.7 and drop it in for the same price. |

Re: Rebuilding 97 2.2
Check in your area, a whole engine might be cheaper than a rebuild.

Re: Rebuilding 97 2.2
Do U Have The Specialty Tools To Do This Job? Basic Handtool Will Most Likely Get The Motor Apart But You Will Never Get It Back Together Reliably.

Most 2.2's that I have seen always seem to be head problems. |

Re: Rebuilding 97 2.2
I would not recommend a rebuild. I put a new head on my 2.2 at 90K miles. Now at 130K and the head is bad again.

Re: Rebuilding 97 2.2
Did you happen to price a crate engine?I too priced the junkyard used engines and they were a rip off considering that a couple more hundred would get you a fresh new crate.
