my first sports car

ive managed to save up some money, and i want to get a sports car. im having trouble deciding whether or not to wait and save my money(very least favorite option), get a 300zx, or get an mkiii toyota supra. id appreciate any opinions from those who know both cars, and even from those who just know the 300zx and can tell me a bit about it. thanx

Re: my first sports car

I wouldn't get it if you're on a low budget. Just taking care of it mechanically is pretty expensive. So are the parts. Go to a 240SX or something for your first car.

Re: my first sports car

Yeah... definately! If you are on a budget... the Z and Supra are not for you! Even the NA counterparts of both can be costly! But as far as reliability on both cars... just as long as you maintain them they will reward you with the best driving experience's ever!

Re: my first sports car

I am on a budget and I found that the Z isnt too bad but it can over extend some people quickly. It is a REAL reliable car and is pretty easy to work with but not work on. If you have no or little driving experiance I would suggest a NA version of either car. If this is your absolute first car I would highly suggest a S13 or S14 240SX. They share many of the suspension parts a Z but are much more forgiving to drive, and on the gas prices too.

if you really want a Z but dont want to fall in that new 240sx fad...get yourself a nice z31 (84-89) n/a or Turbo...they are very reliable and known to last well past the 200k mile mark with no troubles at all. it can teach you the basics of a RWD car while having a blast doing it. but a z32 n/a wont give you too many problems....either one is my recommendation but that is because i think they both look 10 times better than any supra. just my

Re: my first sports car

How about a Honda? They do have fairly good motors and they are extremely easy to work on. So that's a good start. And hey! They're cheap as hell.

Re: my first sports car

Get a Sentra before you EVER get a Honda.... you can find a decent 200SX for cheap and its better than a honda becuase you can find them in RWD.

Re: my first sports car

well right now im driving a sentra. ive been looking at 240sx's, but they are hard to find, and even harder to find in manual. right now ive found a supra, but do you think that a 240sx is a better idea? just because parts are cheaper? i knwo this is porbably the wrong board, but what woudl i really need to replace on the supra? i know the head gaskets go, but the engine is very sturdy, and since its a sports car, the body shoudl eb very sturdy too.

the supra is a very nice car, well built and the 2JZ motor is often talked about but the 1jZ is no slouch. i have heard numbers ranging in the 400hp mark on stock internals...

the z31 turbo is also a very good car and well built. but i personally find it a tad more diffcult to work on than the z32 due to it not being as organized under the hood...but there is much more room on the z31 engine bay. i would go with one of those...i think moving from a senttra to a 240sx, you are gonna find quite dissappointing!!!

Good idea. I use to have a 50cc Honda Moped and it was very easy to work on and got great gas milage, and your right, they're cheap.

Sentra SER's are not car's to be taken lightly! They can be made into mosters!
