Oder smell in the cold

I have an fuel odor that when I start my 95 Pathfinder in the cold I get a strong fuel smell in the cab, I tried replacing my fuel filter and still get the odor . This only happens when the ambiant temp. gets to around 5 degrees celsius or colder. I'm stumped!

How are your fuel lines? I had the same problem with my 95 Pathy, the fuel filter was fine, but my fuel lines themselves started to crack. in colder temperatures the cracks would open up and I would have a very slight fuel leak. the fumes would be sucked through the cowl and then into the cab. I suggest checking your fuel lines. Good luck!

I was having the same exact problem - gas smell in cab of 94 pathfinder on cold mornings.

On another forumn somewhere (now I cant find it), someone suggested checking the litte 5 inch gas hose that's just behind and maybe a little to the left (passenger side) of the distributor cap.

The hose and connections LOOKED ok, but I stuck a screw driver down there and found they each needed about a 1 full turn of the screwdriver to properly tighten.

Have only had 1 or 2 nights below freezing since, but no gas smell either time. Keeping my fingers crossed....

Oh, here it is:
"You might want to check the rubber fuel hose that connects one side of the fuel rail to the other. On my '93, the clamps were loose. This hose is located right behind the distributor cap and is about 5" long. Hope this helps!"

Re: Oder smell in the cold

Have had a few more cold nights since last post, problem NOT fixed! That little 5" hose is probably just one of many possible sources.
