The Old Tape / CD Player Swap

I want a CD player in lieu of the tape deck in my 95 Park Ave so I recently picked up a 98 Pontiac Trans Am's Delco Monsoon CD/Radio w/ Theftlock unit at a garage sale for $10! However, the wire harness plug on my current radio looks like a 32-pin connector and the Delco is a significantly different 20 pin connector plus another 7 pin connector set to the side of the other pins (I'm not sure why these connections are separated). I found a wiring diagram for my wiring harness connection: * http://www.installer.com/cars/gm/gm6.jpg * but I can't find a wiring diagram for the Delco system. If I could find a diagram the wires could be spliced, but I'd like to make this Delco system work without splicing wires because I'm not even sure if it works OR if I got the right unlock codes from the guy. Is there some sort of adapter that exists to convert 95buick to 98pontiac/delco?

I found this which might help:

Any advice?

Thanks in advance
- Jon

besides a custom wireing job there is no way to get it on. also you have to worry about the security code of the headunit. without it, you won't get anywhere.. sorry..

I have the security code and the procedure for unlocking the unit from my Haynes Manual. After scouring the Internet, I found I could solder together two connectors, one from my car's wiring harness and one from the radio, to make the newer Delco deck compatible. This could work even without wiring schematics because the wires themselves were labled. http://www.installer.com was a useful resource and I also used http://www.crutchfield.com. The guy I e-mailed at Crutchfield linked me to the wrong wiring harness connector after I had e-mailed for advice and told them they had the wrong image listed for my car. He said something about them having that info for 9 years and nobody else had reported this 'conflicting information'. Therefore, I decided to go get some advice from the stereo install people at Best Buy. The guy I talked to was smart, well-spoken, and found each of the connectors I needed in under 10 seconds; but then, he realized that this Monsoon CD deck I have plugs into an external amplifier as part of the Trans Am's 8-speaker Monsoon sound system, which I did not have. In conclusion, the CD Deck is incompatible with my car after all.

FYI: While I found the connectors I needed online ranging in price from $9.00 to $11.50, Best Buy wanted $17.50 for each.
