Question ? about swaping a 2g motor into 1g

I have a 93 eclipse gs that I picked up for $200, has a blown motor but I picked up a 95 gs-t motor w/70,000 that I want to swap in. There both 4g63 motors just the obvious ones a turbo. My question is what will I have to switch besides fuel pump and pcm and what wires will I have to add in? I have also been told I should switch all the sensor's from mine over to the new motor, should I do this? Any help would be appreciated. I am mechanic going to school right now but I work on gm's and have not done much with mits. this is the first major thing I will have done to one. Everything else has been basic diagnostic, just following chart for what codes I get out of it. Also does anybody have a 1g turbo pcm for sale, the car is a manual. Thanks again Eric

Re: ? about swaping a 2g motor into 1g

As far as I know this wont work. The 1Gs use 3 motor mounts on the block, while the 2Gs use three motor mounts on the tranny. So my question would be, does the 2g block have the proper mounting points for the front and rear 1G mounts? If it does you might be able to make this work.

You do want to swap the sensors over, the 1g and 2g ECUs are different. The only two I can think of off hand that HAVE to be changed are the MAS, and the Knock Sensor. The ECU is setup specifically for the way those sensors work. I believe the temp and pressure senders are the same, but you still have to swap some so the connectors still fit.

I would look at the 1g in a 2g swap list at www.magnusracing.com and www.roadraceengineering.com to see if you can reverse engineer that info and see if there are going to be any other showstoppers.

lol My friend and I did the same swap but the opposite way. After he had gotten into an accident, we took the motor & tranny out of a 94 GS Turbo that he had bought from an auction for his 97 RS with an automatic after the core support and etc was changed. You have to fabricate new mounts, change the speedometer- well we had to anyway, change over the ECU and sensors, we welded in a new clutch pedal and changed the brake pedal. We also did a few mild upgrades to his suspension before they were dropped in. We're still not done with the rest of the car.

OK Well back to the topic. What I think I am going to do is see if the mounts r the same this weekend, if they r I have a friend that can get me a 1g turbo harness and ecu for like $150 and I will just swap over all the sensor's. If the mounts r to different I will just see if I can find anybody that will swap for a 1g motor. I can't see the mounts being all that different because I have heard of other people putting 1g blocks into 2g with no problem. I also know they like to using the heads because of bigger ports. I could be wrong since I have never seen it personally. If you can think of anything else I should do please let me know.
Another thing to is when I brought the motor home I noticed that its not a gst trans its a gsx, I am not sure if there is any damage to it but I do know the transfer case is removed. If the trans has no visable damage on the outside i will be posting it for sale as is If anybody is interested. Thanks again Eric

Re: ? about swaping a 2g motor into 1g

The reason you can put a 1g block in a 2g car so easily is because 3 of the 4 mounts are on the 2g tranny, I thought I made that clear before. The 2 blocks are different.

Its not the mounts that you need to look at, you will have to use 1g mounts for sure. Its the mounting points on the block where you attach the front and rear mount that you have to have. I think I still have a blown out 2g block in the garage, I'm going to take a look at it thursday and see if the 1g mounting points are there.
